BREAKING: University of Montana Radio Shakeup - Era of "Yahtzee Baby" Ends; New Era of "Farkle, Baby" Begins.
MISSOULA, Mont. - In what can only be described as a seismic shift for the Montana Grizzlies radio landscape, the golden era of the "Yahtzee Baby" has officially drawn to a close.
Longtime radio personality, Greg Sundberg, announced he is stepping away from the microphone, taking his iconic catchphrase into a well-earned retirement. For years, Sundberg's enthusiastic exclamation became the undisputed soundtrack of big plays, heart-pounding finishes, and Saturday afternoons in Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Fans across Big Sky Country grew to measure the magnitude of a Griz touchdown purely by how loud the "Yahtzee Baby" echoed through their radios.
But fans won't have to mourn the loss of high-stakes tabletop-game-themed broadcasting for long.
Griz legend and incoming radio analyst Chase Reynolds has officially confirmed that he will be taking over the headset - and he's wasting no time putting his own stamp on the program.
Addressing reporters this week, Reynolds announced that rather than trying to fill Sundberg's massive shoes with the classic catchphrase, he is pivoting to a game of slightly lower stakes, higher complexity, and entirely different dice mechanics.
"Greg gave us an incredible run with Yahtzee," Reynolds said. "It's timeless. It's classic. But it's time to modernize. It's time to evolve. Starting this fall, when the Griz punch it into the end zone, we aren't shouting Yahtzee anymore. We're rolling the six-dice destiny. Get ready for 'Farkle, Baby.'"
Industry analysts are already split on the rebrand. Die-hard traditionalists worry that the casual college football fan won't immediately understand the psychological devastation of rolling a 1-5 combination and "farkling" away all the accumulated points at the 10-yard line.
However, analytics experts point out that "Farkle, Baby" offers far more aggressive, high-risk, high-rewarding branding - a philosophy that fits Reynolds' famously gritty playing style.
"Look," explained one anonymous athletic department insider. "Yahtzee is safe. You get three rolls to lock in your categories. Farkle? Farkle requires nerves of steel. You keep rolling until you score or lose everything. If that doesn't represent Griz football in the fourth quarter, I don't know what does."
Sundberg has not yet commented on whether he will legally contest the use of a rival dice-and-cup metaphor, but sources close to the veteran broadcaster report he was spotted browsing the board game aisle at a local Missoula Target, muttering something about a trademark on "Full House".
Until kickoff, Griz nation is advised to brush up on their scoring combinations, check their straight probabilities, and prepare to shout across the state:
"FARKLE, BAAABYYYYY!"
