In Memory of Caitlin Busby, “Miss KK”

The Child Development and Family Studies Center (CDFSC) recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of one of our beloved teachers, Caitlin Busby, affectionately known as “Miss KK.”

Caitlin was a cherished member of the CDFSC family, having been part of our center since 2019. She found great joy in coming to work each day and spending time with the children in her care. Caitlin’s infectious personality, warmth, and genuine love for the children made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

To honor Caitlin’s memory and celebrate the joy she brought to the lives of so many, a memorial fund has been established in her name.

Parents and caregivers, you do not have to be technology experts to help keep your kids safe online.

Join us for Connected & Protected: A Family Digital Safety Night on Thursday, September 3 at 5:30 PM at the FBC Warehouse in Starkville.

This free event will include interactive stations, practical tools, and opportunities to ask questions about digital safety, family communication, scam awareness, and what to do when something doesn’t feel right online.

This event will also kick-off Digital Guardians: Real Help for Parenting in a Digital World, a new pilot program designed to support families navigating phones, apps, gaming, social media, screen time, cyberbullying, online strangers, and more.

Help us congratulate two SHS members, Dr. Carley Morrison and Santee Ezell, on their joint work with other Faculty members across MSU in being awarded a $3 million National Science Foundation Research Traineeship grant to build the workforce needed to support resilient rural energy infrastructure. Their program, Smart Agriculture Energy Innovation Network (SAGEIN), aims to help communities adopt sustainable energy technologies while improving land-use efficiency and creating new economic opportunities.

Joy Nabors, a graduate of our AELC program, was recently selected as a Cowgirl 30 Under 30! Joy attributes Dr. Carley Morrison and Dr. Melody Fisher for having a lasting impact on her professional growth and accomplishments. We love seeing our graduates thrive! Congratulations, Joy!

Get ready to celebrate Graduation! 🎓The School of Human Sciences will be hosting a Grad Luncheon on May 14th from 10:30am to 1:00pm in Lloyd Ricks Watson 210. The Grad Luncheon is for PhD graduates, Master's graduates, Undergraduate Seniors, and their families as they prepare for the Graduation Ceremony starting at 2:30pm in the Hump. Finger foods and light refreshments will be provided. This is a come-and-go event, so feel free to stop by on the way to graduation!
