WHY SPECIALIZE IN ANYTHING IF YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING, RIGHT❓
Wrong.
Here’s the issue with not specializing in something in this industry, besides the five reasons I gave you in the slides.
You will have a difficult time setting yourself apart from other beauty professionals.
Let’s use our platform as an example.
We KNOW we can teach our Academy curriculum and coach any cosmetologist to almost anything they desire in business….
But you don’t see us mentioning nail tech, estheticians and laser hair removal spas in our content.
Why?
Simply because our message would appear diluted.
A year ago, someone we met in construction asked us if our curriculum would work for other trades like plumbers, electricians and HVAC people at trades schools.
Yes it would.
But you don’t see us building a Plumber’s Tribe or Electrician Business course.
You kind of get where we are going with this?
We aren’t trying to be everything to everyone even though we know we could be.
Marketing and sales is finicky when the messaging hits the end consumer’s ears and eyes.
The person who sees your messaging thinks: “Oh you’re a hairstylist? Cool. I have one of those “ And that response from a potential client is vastly different than….
“Oh you specialize in color corrections? That’s awesome. I can’t find one of those. When can you schedule me in?
….or our personal favorite which is personal to me , Melissa because I have curly hair.
I cannot find a curly hair expert in Orange County,California is my life depended on it.
How could I though? It seems like virtually every woman in this area has straight hair so why would curly hair experts employ themselves here?
(Having said that, if you’re a curly hair expert in south Orange County, you’ll make a bazillion dollars because nobody else here knows how to do a braid, cut curly hair or blow dry curls)
First world problems am I right?
