To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the Saddleback College community gathered at the Veterans Memorial for a moment of silence and observance.

Saddleback College Police Chief Richard Nelson opened the ceremony, recognizing the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day, as well as those who serve our communities every day.

President Dr. Lonita Cordova, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, followed by sharing her personal reflections on resilience, honoring the memory of those we lost, and reminding us of the duty we carry to support one another.

They were joined by students from the Saddleback College EMT program, who are currently training to become the next generation of firefighters and paramedics.

We thank everyone who joined us today for this solemn remembrance.

Today, Saddleback College hosted "The Last Fling" on the Quad, bringing our faculty and staff together for lunch, games, and relaxation before welcoming our students back for the fall semester.

The main event? Our Foundation dunk tank! Employees who signed up to donate to student scholarships earned a turn to send their colleagues into the water!

Leadership got in on the action too! Saddleback College President Dr. Lonita Cordova landed a direct hit to dunk VP of Administrative Services Rod Garcia, and South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) Chancellor Dr. Julianna M. Asperin Barnes successfully dunked SOCCCD Trustee T.J. Prendergast!

Thank you to everyone who participated today! It was a fantastic way to wrap up the summer, enjoy our beautiful campus together, and prepare to support our students in this new academic year.
