My ACT/SAT prep student roster is now FULL! I want to keep doing an excellent job for the students I am already seeing, so I have made the decision to stop accepting new students for a little bit as school gets into gear.

If you know anyone who is looking for a tutor, I will be putting together a waitlist for when my availability opens up more after the September and October ACTs. Keep referring folks! I have been so grateful to help make a difference for these kids.

The ACT on Saturday happened to fall on my birthday. As a present to me, several of my students did their absolute best on that attempt. I cannot wait to see results. Check out my website if you haven’t recently for some testimonials. Not every student writes something, but the ones who have written things have been very kind. I read through them every once in a while and think how lucky I am to have people engage enough to want to say good things at the end about studying for a big test.

To my students: thank you so much for your dedication, and I can’t wait to see what other things you’ll lock in like that for in your life.

This fall, I will be attending grad school in addition to teaching 10th grade math full-time at a local charter school. As a result, I may have a smaller maximum roster of students I can manage in the fall. With referrals being my preferred source of new students, I ask you to please mention me to a friend if they have a high school aged kid who is looking for score improvement on standardized tests - whether they’re really good at testing and looking to get consistent perfect scores or have no confidence touching math whatsoever, I will adjust and drive results. I can help a lot of people get more amped about studying and stay busy as a teacher this summer as I prep before the new school year.

Send me a message if you know someone who is interested in starting this summer to intentionally prepare for the ACT/SAT; first session is always half off to try it.

I can provide real value with what I’ve learned teaching a class about it and from my many students over past decade plus. I have great availability matching most students’ schedules, and I can help with motivation to study and direction to resources and topics. Standardized test prep tutoring comes with an individualized study plan for maximum prep outside of each session (how much homework adjusts around student’s individual schedule). I can tutor all subjects on the ACT but can also focus one or two particular subjects.

Tutoring with Betsy is my way of disseminating as much math confidence into the world as possible. I teach Algebra to 9th graders at a local school, and building individual confidence and motivation for math is one of my most cherished passions. It is valuable to have someone you trust can help you build your math confidence, skills, and mental game for tests.

A bunch of people I openly was a nerd about math in high school with can back up my actual math skills. 12 years of tutoring have taught me a lot about the qualities that turn just a math person into a more motivated person who wants to build the confidence of the next generation. As we learn how to reason through examples and recall information from specific math we haven’t thought about in years, the mental space we must learn to maintain is incredibly important. I promise, it’s about more than math. Also though, it is about a LOT of math - at your pace, but always pushing. It can also be about English grammar/vocab/rules or Chemistry/Physics - just communicate so I know what you need)

I prefer working with students longer term - I can achieve more consistent learning after establishing trust and self confidence. Some students really just need brushing up. I saw one student who had very specific questions, and he needed less than a handful of sessions before I told his mom he didn't need any more tutoring and I was certain he would do well given his consistent performance. They didn't schedule again, and next I heard he got a 36. I can't take credit because I didn't tutor him for long, but this just goes to show that sometimes you just need a little brush up and other times you get to the root of the anxiety you've felt about math your whole life (and go up 50%ile points like one student).

This was pretty fun to design. You need a computer, a place to take notes, a pencil/pen, a prep book, water, a snack, and a calculator - and your pet is welcome to wander through too.

Every time I feel like I’m pretty satisfied with how thorough the frequently asked questions section of my intake form is, someone asks a new question that helps me write more. Is it socially acceptable to have 4 pages of information-dense FAQs?
