I'm happy to be in contact you via this page and to update you from time to time on my thoughts about coaching and about life.
Today I want to tell you about a podcast that I listened to several times and which has made a big impression on me. It’s called Deep Work. It’s an interview with Cal Newport, a professor of computer science at Georgetown University. Newport is author of the book called Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World. Shankar Vedantam, host of the weekly podcast, Hidden Brain, interviews him. Here is the link. https://player.fm/series/series-1324366/you-20-deep-work
Newport talks about the cost to us of the constant interruptions of our phones, email messages, and texts. They limit our ability to immerse ourselves in creative work and, he argues, the demands of technology also negatively affect our general sense of well-being. Newport offers sensible strategies on how to manage the distractions. But it’s hard to do. I’ve got to admit that changing my pattern of responding immediately to the pings and rings of my devices is a challenge. I hope it’s easier for you.
Let me know what you think of the podcast. And tell me how you are. If you prefer to share your thoughts privately, please send me an email.
I continue to love my work as a coach and would also be grateful if you refer colleagues, students, friends and family for coaching. My phone number is 612 227-1623 and my email address is ackerbergcoach.com. Heeding the advice of Professor Newport, I probably won’t respond instantly.
By the way, I list my fees on my website, lynne@ackerberg coach, but you should know that I offer lower rates to teachers, students, and artists.
I look forword to hearing from you.
