Like so many across the church, we grieve the loss of Pastor Daniel Erlander, beloved child of God. His remarkable body of illustrated works spanned decades, conveying a theological point of view that is joyous, generous, and deeply rooted in Scripture. On the morning he died, many across the church were reading Jesus’ words in Luke 14 about who sits where at the table. Throughout his books, Pastor Dan has gifted us with illustrations of tables (dozens of them!) that show what can happen when God’s manna is shared with all.

We give thanks for all the ways that Pastor Dan shared his gifts to help fulfill God’s unfolding promise to mend the entire universe. And we offer up Pastor Dan’s own words: “In the midst of yearning for God’s future, joy abounds. Hope is certain. Jesus declares in the resurrection of Jesus—shalom will come!”
