Not only are we celebrating the first day of school at MPS, but Sept. 8 is also Margo Hurrle Student Homelessness Awareness Day.

Each year, about 3,000 MPS students experience housing instability. The MPS Homeless & Highly Mobile (HHM) Department works every day to remove barriers, build relationships, connect students and families with resources, and help students stay engaged in school and thrive.

MPS also partners with the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Public Housing Authority and Hennepin County through Stable Homes Stable Schools to help provide housing stability for students and families.

Today, we honor the legacy of Margo Hurrle, a longtime MPS staff member who dedicated more than 30 years to supporting students and families experiencing homelessness. Her belief in the power of community partnerships continues to shape this work today.

We invite our community to learn more about HHM services and how you can get involved: bit.ly/MPS-HHM
