Minneapolis Public Schools and Camden High School officially broke ground on a major renovation of the school’s athletic complex on June 15, marking an exciting milestone for the community.
Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams was joined by Minneapolis City Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw, MPS and Camden leaders, students, caregivers, community members and contractors to celebrate the start of the project.
The renovation will bring major upgrades including a new turf multi-sport field, 8-lane track, improved lighting and scoreboard, expanded seating and press box, and a new concessions and restroom facility.
Construction will roll out in phases through June 2027, transforming the space into a modern, community-ready athletic hub.

June 17 has officially been proclaimed Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams Day in the City of Minneapolis! 🎉
In October, the Minnesota Association of School Administrators (MASA) named Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams the 2026 Minnesota Superintendent of the Year, and today we had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate this well-deserved honor during a break from MPS staff training.
MPS and community leaders came together to mark the occasion, including Board Chair Collin Beachy, St. Paul Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley, MASA Executive Director Dr. Deb Henton, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who joined in honoring Dr. Sayles-Adams’ leadership and service to students, families and educators.
As part of the celebration, Mayor Frey presented an official City of Minneapolis proclamation recognizing June 17 as Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams Day.
Congratulations, Dr. Sayles-Adams!
