Art of Healing is a University of Minnesota-based research collaborative working to learn from, empower and uplift womxn of color across the Twin Cities!
Art of Healing: Embodied Storysharing as Resistance and Praxis is a University of Minnesota-based research collaborative, funded through a grand challenges grant, that works to center immigrant, indigenous, refugee womxn and/or womxn of color's visions and enactment of justice, health, and healing. Through workshops, pop-up art events, and facilitated dialogues, Art of Healing builds a critical an
d intersectional vision of wellness and care that strengthens communities, expands circles of accountability, and empowers all womxn to heal radically! Transformative health practices require re-imagining the meaning of healing. Social medicine and feminist studies both assert the salience of storytelling to individual and collective healing through better intersubjective relations, when dealing with illness and trauma. We ask what it means to work at the convergence of these insights and build practices that re-imagine healing through embodied practices. Our project works through collaborative, community-directed research to imagine alternative constructions of healing, health equity, and justice, particularly as they exist in the intersection of multiple kinds of marginalizations, geographies, and resistances.
