📢 QSD workshop announcement:“The "Science" of Jurassic Park: An Introduction to Computational Chemistry”
Come explore Jurassic Park at Q***r Science Day! 🌈🦕 We will be using computational chemistry tools to uncover information about DNA oxidation and show how the “science” of Jurassic Park isn’t super accurate – BUT don’t worry… we will be discussing current research efforts on finding intact dinosaur DNA and using evolutionary biology to reverse-engineer dinosaurs from chickens. The tools we will be using are easily applicable to chemistry, biology, physics, computer science… you name it! (And dinosaurs are pretty cool.) 🥼🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🧪🧬💻 Register for QSD at the link in our bio!

join us for another QSD May 2023 workshop!! Come join Q***r Science for “Sweet and Spicy Chromatography” as we learn how scientists are able to separate different components from food and drugs. In this workshop we will use thin-layer chromatography to distinguish the pigments found in a variety of different candies and spices. We will use these examples to learn how thin-layer chromatography is used to look for counterfeit spices, as well as to discuss how chromatography is used in a variety of different scientific fields. 🍭🍬🧪🥼

📢📢 workshop announcement!!! Join us for “The Amazing Sea Anemone - (Sea Anemone Feeding and Light Behavior)" 🪸🐚🐠
Have you ever thought about how amazing the humble sea anemone is? Do you know what sea anemones are?
They have amazing abilities such as the ability to “see” without an eye, to regenerate their entire body, and to catch prey with the fastest harpoon in nature.
This workshop will explore some of these amazing abilities with hands on demos, videos and conversation about how these little creatures are important ecological, evolutionary models and could help human health one day.

Another workshop for QSD!!! Join University of Minnesota Psychology graduate students, in partnership with Growing Brains, for a workshop about the plasticity of the brain! This session includes a special emphasis on adolescence as a unique period for brain development. We will have a brief informational session followed by a variety of fun activities (including the opportunity to touch a real human brain!) and a discussion about emotions and mental health.

Workshop announcement: Introduction to 3D printing!!
Join University of Minnesota students, in partnership with Anderson labs, for a workshop on how 3D printing works. The session will include printing a few different fun objects, including a hinge, a tiny rattle, and a q***r science logo!

Register for QSD at the link in bio! Hope to see you there 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🥼🧪
