🖤 Honoring George Floyd. Reflecting on Community. Continuing the Work. 🖤

At Phyllis Wheatley Community Center, we pause to honor the life of George Floyd and reflect on the lasting impact his death had on Minneapolis and communities across the world.

His life and legacy continue to inspire important conversations around justice, healing, opportunity, and the power of community. As an organization rooted in service and empowerment, PWCC remains committed to creating spaces where youth, families, and neighbors can grow, connect, and thrive together.

We recognize the strength of the North Minneapolis community and the ongoing work being done every day to build hope, support one another, and create positive change for future generations.

Today, we honor George Floyd’s memory by continuing to show up for our community—with compassion, purpose, and unity. ✨

🌳💚 A Meaningful Moment for Our Community 💚🌳

Friday, during the 2026 Arbor Day Celebration at Bethune Park, we were honored to come together for a special memorial tree planting ceremony in remembrance of the late Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Melissa Hortman.

This tree, planted just behind home base, stands as a living tribute — a symbol of growth, legacy, and lasting impact in the North Minneapolis community. 🌱

It made the moment even more powerful knowing that this year marked the return of Arbor Day to the Northside after 10 years. To gather, reflect, and celebrate together in this way was truly special.

💚 Thank you to our incredible community, partners, and everyone who showed up to support, honor, and celebrate. Your presence is what continues to make events like this so meaningful.

Together, we’re planting more than trees — we’re planting roots for the future. 🌳
