Community Folk Dance Night is this Thursday. Come join us for an evening of folk dances from around the world. You don't need experience to join the circle - we teach every dance, and new dancers are always welcome.

Come dance, learn something new, and enjoy the fun of figuring it out together!

We drove to Red Wing last Saturday to see the Tamburitzans perform. A group of us went together to have lunch and enjoy a fabulous show.

As recreational folk dancers, we have a particular appreciation for the skill, energy, and dedication that goes into a performance like this. The Tamburitzans were fabulous, so talented and fun to watch!

It's always a treat to get out and experience another part of the folk dance world, and even better to do it with dancing friends.

Last Thursday, we danced for an hour.

We shared a meal.

We laughed over Quiz Bowl.

People rearranged schedules to be there.

No one seemed to be in a hurry to leave.

That's our Village.

We were learning the clapping pattern in a German dance.

One dancer paused, looked at me with a grin, and said, "This is preventing Alzheimer's, right?"

We all laughed.

Nobody was worried about getting every clap exactly right. We were just enjoying ourselves, helping each other along, and sharing the dance.

Afterward, one dancer said something that perfectly captured the evening: "I got to feel like a folk dancer."

That's Community Folk Dance Night.

Sometimes the best moments happen where you least expect them.

In the middle of one of Minnesota's busiest places, a circle of people stopped what they were doing to learn a few simple dances. Our dancers offered the opportunity to join in a few easy dances. For a few minutes, strangers became partners, smiles replaced hurried schedules, and the State Fair became a place to connect.

That's one of the things we love about international folk dance. The dances we learn don't stay in the classroom. They become something we can share - with friends, family, and even complete strangers - at festivals, cultural celebrations, workshops, and community events throughout the year.

This album celebrates the many places you'll find our dancers in the community - sharing the joy of international folk dance, welcoming others into the circle, and enjoying the connections that grow through music and dance.
