Improv comedy and democracy are on the menu as Sketches of Minnesota visits Albert Lea.

Join the Minnesota Humanities Center, Danger Boat Productions, and the Emily Mine Information Group for a special return visit of the Sketches of Minnesota civic improv comedy tour!

This special gathering - Digging Into the Emily Mine: What Lies Ahead - will use laughter and comedy to dive into an important community conversation exploring the potential impact of a manganese mine in Emily. The evening includes a free dinner, followed by a facilitated conversation with two experts who will share information about mine permitting, groundwater interaction with the manganese deposit, and potential impacts of the proposed mine.

Guests will hear from Joy Anderson, JD - MN Center for Environmental Advocacy (MCEA) - who reviews mine permitting process and public input opportunities, and Bob Karls, a hydrogeologist with over 46 years of experience in solving environmental challenges.

Nothing brings people together like Mexican food and a public library.

We stopped in Red Wing 🪽 last week as part of our tour with the Minnesota Humanities Center. Residents came together over fajitas in the Red Wing Public Library to talk about their town — what they love about it, what they wish they could change, and what their hopes are for the future.

The resulting conversations gave way to some ridiculous, yet heartfelt, improvised comedy scenes about affordable housing, diversity, and the local Facebook group.

📣 We're hiring a part-time Administrative Assistant! 📣

If you didn't know, Danger Boat recently went from a 2-person, to a 3-person, to a 6-person, then back down to a 5-person operation. Which is a lot of math for a team full of liberal arts majors and theater nerds.

Our co-founder Brandon Boat reflects on our decision to hire a full-time team instead of contractors, how we determined which roles to hire, and what we've learned from the process in our latest blog post.

Brandon shared, "I wanted to write about that because hiring your first team members isn’t easy and involves long metaphorical gazes into a mirror."
