We do not have student teachers. We serve students ages 2 through adult - beginner to professional levels. We are a non-competition school and our mission is to help our students build a strong technical foundation and inspire them on their pathway to becoming well-rounded artists. our philosophy is to develop each dancer artistically and creatively within a challenging, positive and supportive environment. We seek to become the most trusted source of Arts training and development on Long Island. We have a state of the art 6600 square foot intentional space designed for arts training. Sprung floors, climate controlled studios and professional sound systems as well as pianos in every studio as many of our classes provide live musical accompaniment. Whether you are seeking training or development as an actor, singer or dancer - we have programs that will give you the tools needed to be both successful and confident in your auditions, training and performance.

Theatre (and dance) can break your heart. And, I think we should talk about this when we talk about what it teaches kids. Sometimes you don't get the lead. Sometimes you say "I'll take anything". Ensemble. One Line. Anything. You JUST want to be a part of it. Then the cast list goes up. Your friends are on it. Kids you auditioned besides are on it. It can feel like everyone got in. Except you. And sometimes you did everything right. You prepared. You worked hard. You were brave. You were good. And you still weren't chosen. Maybe the decision makes sense. Maybe it feels subjective, political or like who knows whom. Sometimes, you'll never know. That's a brutal lesson. Doing your best does not guarantee a fair outcome. And that lesson doesn't end when the curtain comes closes. Someday it's College. The Job. The promotion. The opportunity you were sure was yours. And someone else gets chosen. Theatre kids have processed this part. FEEL IT. TAKE IT IN. Learn from it if you can. Then pick up another script (or attend another dance call) and risk hearing no again. This might be one of the most valuable things theatre kids carry into adulthood. Theatre doesn't teach them if they work hard enough, everything will work out. It teaches them that sometimes it won't. And they can still walk into the next room. (and try again.) AT ATDW we teach our students about resilience. About bouncing back and supporting everyone.
