A recent Harvard Business Review article outlined how leaders can alleviate burnout tendencies within their teams, and the guidance is spot on:
▶️ Reduce meeting load and clarify decision rights from the top.
▶️ Establish shared language that legitimizes tradeoffs and operational constraints, like: “What problem are we solving?” “This might not work operationally. What constraints are we missing?” or “What would ‘good enough’ look like here?”
▶️ Hold regular check-ins with individual teams and leadership, focused on obstacles and resource gaps, not just status updates.
▶️ Set explicit team norms around off-hours communication and response expectations.
When leaders take these steps, they create clarity, reduce unnecessary strain, and give their teams space to do their best work.
