For anyone who's ever wondered just what you can do with makeup - how you can change into a character just with some swipes of a brush - you need to see this.
While it probably took quite a while to apply (and years to master!) it truly is astounding what you can become!
Rick Baker Making Up Rick Baker This was a practice make up that I did on myself for my MAC master class from 2009. For the class I had one hour to make myself up . I practiced numerous tim...

Well, here's a preview of some of them from a hanami celebration we attended at the end of March where a ton of local students of traditional Japanese dance performed, ages 3 and up!
Keep a watch over there, or on our Flickr page ://www.flickr.com/photos/sam-in-japan/ if you're interested in seeing what we've been up to in Japan!
Something stumbled upon this afternoon while watching NHK - the art of Kagayuzen dyeing for kimono, and applications to new textiles.
Thought costumers and artists who follow us here might be interested in stuffs like this - would you like us to keep sharing art and costuming links we stumble upon?
NHK WORLD English NHK WORLD is the international broadcasting service of NHK.
Typical. There was a con just a few miles away and we missed it.

Samantha has been posting the photos from our trip to Beppu this past weekend! Here's the first batch:
Beppu Sentoumyou 2012 My images from the Beppu Sentoumyou festival (1,000 candles, I believe). We arrived early and were able to get some good shots before the sun went down, and then many, many more of the handmade lanterns and art displays around the park.
It's nearly that time! Tae and I will be moving to Southern Japan in about 2-3 weeks, for a period of 18 months. Sadly the leatherworking gear is way too big and bulky to bring, which means all production on those items will cease until we return.
I'm happyt to announce that we'll be shifting gears back to our line of corsetry made from vintage kimono silk, instead! We've made a few in the past, but it was limited by the availability of the vintage kimono we could find.

This is the work-in-progress album for our newest personal cosplay: Jace Beleren, a Planeswalker from the Magic: the Gathering collectible card game.
Just stumbled upon this, and now my brain is racing with ideas of how to integrate these into costumes and props!

Fabric get! Camera phone doesn't do it justice, but this teal crepe is going to be perfect.
It's been a few years since we've made "big" outfits for ourselves, and we've talked about tons of them along the way. I'm happy to say that we've started on a cosplay that will really showcase our talents as pattern drafters and construction experts: Jace Beleren from Magic: the Gathering.
We've finished up our concept sketches and pattern breakdown, managed to find the perfect blue, and just took measurements for the under structure! We'll be sure to post work-in-progress as it, well, progresses :]
