--Experience

-Twenty five years teaching struggling students and those with disabilities in all subject areas.

-Nine years working for the Alabama Department of Education, Special Education Services, specializing in assisting parents and school personnel with the requirements of the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act and the commensurate regulations in the Alabama Administrative Code.

-Trained in the Beginning Reading program which became the foundation for the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI), and worked in collaboration with ARI staff.

-Thirty four years providing individualized tutoring services in foundational reading, language, and study skills for struggling students, and those with disabilities including Attention Deficit Disorder (and Hyperactivity), Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Deaf/Hard of Hearing.

--Tutoring Services

-Accelerated Reading Instruction: Provide individualized, multi-
sensory instruction in foundational reading skills designed to accelerate the student's reading level.

-Language and Vocabulary Assistance: Uniquely improve expressive and receptive language skills particularly in students with weaknesses in these areas. Develop oral and written expression skills in accordance with the student's assessed abilities.

-Study and Testing Skills Development: Provide study skills, and testing strategies based on the student's unique learning style.

-Parental Coaching: Provide personal guidance, as well as enhancement activities for parents to incorporate at home. Questions or concerns are addressed in-person as well as through e-mail, phone, or internet.



--Consultation Services

-IEP Review/Consultation: Assist parents and school personnel with the revision of IEPs and utilization of appropriate resources. Develop written details and resolution solutions for parental and school concerns. Educate parents on how to interpret all aspects of this important documentation.

-Team Meeting Assistance: Assist parents, students, and school personnel at IEP Team meetings regarding appropriate services solutions.

-Parent Coaching: Provide strategies for parents to independently advocate for their child. Coaching is designed to meet each clients individual needs. Strategies include learning specific regulatory requirements, monitoring academic progress, incorporating positive behavioral supports, and utilizing positive & productive methods of interaction within the IEP Team.

-E-mail, Phone, FaceTime & Skype Consultation: Provide comprehensive consultation services through alternative methods when face-to-face meetings are not feasible.

-Evaluation Review: Clarify school and/or independent evaluation reports with parents. Compare evaluation results to IEP and Progress Reports. Help parents to understand the important details of all types of testing scores to measure adequate progress.



--Prices For Consultative and Tutoring Services

The fee for consultant and tutoring services is $35.00 per hour or $20.00 per one-half hour. Requests for assistance whether by phone, e-mail, or internet communication for time periods less than one-half hour will be charged at $.60 per minute.
