Michelle Nayeli Bouvier: Embodied Resilience

Michelle Nayeli Bouvier: Embodied Resilience Continuing Education for Living Yoga & Movement Professionals
Yoga Wisdom + Modern Science I've been teaching multidisciplinary mindful movement for 20+ years.

I go by either Michelle or Nayeli - my preference is that you get to choose. Over & over I've seen the power of embodied practice -tools of the body + mind + breath- on peoples lives. My work is devoted to spreading the power of mindful embodied practice as a tool of bodymind resilience. I'm a Prana Vinyasa™ Yoga Teacher Trainer, Certified Yoga Therapist, GYROTONIC® Trainer, Axis Syllabus practit

ioner, Hoopdance pioneer & integrative movement educator. I help people of all walks of life move better, feel better & live better. I've created the Kutilaa School of Embodied Resilience to train the next-generation of yoga & movement teachers in healthy movement through true alignment with the body's biotensegrity design, from the inside->out (rather than from the outside->in). A deep bow to all the teachers on whose shoulders I stand. I've been most influenced by the wisdom & work of Shiva Rea, Frey Faust, Joanne Avison, Gil Hedley, Tom Meyers, Juliu Horvath, Christopher Tompkins, Christopher Wallis, Daniel Odier & Tias Little. A deep bow also to all of my students - we're all each other's teachers.

Every 3rd Friday I lead a live, online, donation-based practice that brings yogic awareness to meet fascia and nervous system research.

Tomorrow is our July practice, and we are inviting a curiosity about how to work with ebbs and flows of inspiration and energy for embodied practice.

How do we get over inertia, laziness, etc.?
What tools do we have for our bodies and minds to return to the love of movement as medicine for life?

Join us, live or get replay access for a week.

Sign up to be on the list to receive Embodied Resilience Sadhana reminders each month (1 week, 1 day before & 2 hours before live practice), & link for replay access. You will always have the option to opt-out of monthly reminders.

⚡️Lightning in a Bottle⚡️
My 18th ritual of dancing playful freedom with friends.
5th year helping curate an epic lineup of movement and yoga teachers who have both excellence, love to dance and know how to play.

I don’t have any pictures of my class, but the best part of it is being with such a magical people in such a magical place. The really does it. Grateful and blessed.

Keep dancing🪩

Live your life to the fullest, find your purpose, devote yourself to it, and you will always find joy and meaning and inspiration… no matter, yes in spite of, all that it is happening in the collective.

Remember that Joy is resistance
Love is resilience
Dance and celebration is how humans have always made it through

Movement is absolutely unequivocally medicine for body, mind, heart, and soul

Yoga is a way of living, and orientation, a way - not magical shapes.

move the way you want to move
move the way you want to feel

I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. ~ Anne Frank

Preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known. ~ Carl Sagan

Earth Day reflections:

* When did you last touch the Earth with your bare hands?
* Do you know where your food comes from? Your water?
* What did your ancestors’ relationship with the land look like? What changed?
* What would change if you felt every breath as tree exhalation, and every exhale the breath of the nearest tree?
* How much time do you spend on screens vs. in direct contact with the natural world?
* When was the last time you felt genuine awe at something in nature?

I saw a study this week that though we all know exercise is important, it’s VARIETY of movement was a better predictor of health span and longevity than amount of exercise overall.

🌀Variety is the best medicine, it’s Nature’s design for ecological resilience, for diet and our microbiome (the greater the variety of fruits and vegetables you eat the healthier your microbiome), and it’s true for our movement as medicine for body, mind, nervous system, and overall health.

🌀This is usually the easiest entry point for you if you practice things like yoga or pilates or anything that presents itself as precise about form, about ‘correct alignment’.

🌀Alignment will never be one size fits all, and it will never result from focusing on the outer shape.

🌀However, it is a journey to fully understand this ~ it took me many years to investigate, (un)learn, embody in my own practice, see the difference in students and clients ~ plus having an inside look at Ta***ic texts that describe the oldest known embodied yoga as dynamic, fluid and spontaneous (as well as ‘shaped by sound’ but that’s for another time).

Variety y’all.
And PLAY!
It’s definitely medicine for these times.

Happy Earth Day 🌎

Repetitive stress, over doing, over stretching, believing opening is endless, never questioning what we were told, seeking intensity, as well as being dogmatic and strict about mechanical alignment that doesn’t represent the nonlinear design of our somatic structure… with time, repetition and devotion leads to vulnerability, instability, and greater likelihood of injury (though usually outside of practice!)

I used to think Ashtanga was the holy grail for life.
Whew have times changed.

I remember back in my 20’s older practitioners all shifted toward meditation and away from physical practices, some noting their bodies no longer ‘able’ or ‘wanting to do’ this prescriptive practice.

My current movement research teachers are moving in infinite ways in their 60’s, and I know we can move with fluidity strength and enjoyment well into old age.

If a practice doesn’t support that possibility, is it truly life-affirming?

What do you think?

Find your movement medicine.
Movement is medicine for the body, mind & soul.
Movement has the power to change the world.
If you’re reading this, I think you get it.

Embodied practices align us daily with our authentic self, infusing purpose, strength and awareness into our days.

Embodied practices connect us to our inner wisdom and vital energy. It’s how we renew our grasp on our lives, our health, and our future.

After a complex and challenging journey through body breakdown ~ I learned (the hard way!) how precious it is to reclaim embodied practice with deepened understanding of bodymind science, humble reverence to ancient teachings & renewed childlike wonder.

Embodied practices a part of living yoga have saved me more times than you can imagine.

💃
What movement practices do you love most to feel connected to body, mind & soul?

For me, there’s so many movement modalities I love, but if there were one that has been the most potent over time, for mind, heart, body, spirit, community, life impact it’s definitely the hoop.

If you’ve ever felt curious and haven’t yet, this IS your sign to try🥰
