This week, we are thrilled to celebrate Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week at Jacques Memorial School!

As an Early Elementary school, we are incredibly fortunate to have a team of educators and support staff who bring energy, patience, creativity, and heart into our classrooms every single day. From helping our youngest learners take their very first steps in reading and math, to building confidence, kindness, and a love of school—our staff truly make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

We see the early mornings, the thoughtful planning, the teamwork, and the countless moments of care and encouragement that happen behind the scenes. Most importantly, we see the joy and growth in our students because of you.

On behalf of our entire school community, thank you for everything you do to make Jacques Memorial such a special place to learn and grow.

We had a very sweet surprise in first grade! 🍩

To celebrate Arnie the Doughnut winning our March Book Madness, author Laurie Keller generously sent each student an autographed bookmark—what an exciting treat for our young readers! She also gifted us an adorable Arnie stuffed doughnut, who has been making special visits to each classroom and spreading lots of smiles along the way.

We are so grateful for this thoughtful gesture and for bringing even more joy to our love of reading. Thank you, Laurie Keller! 💛📚

Get ready to roll into reading—Bikes for Books is back! We’re excited to once again partner with the Milford Masonic Temple Association, led by Mr. Ralph Sommese, to bring this fun and motivating reading program to Jacques Memorial School and Heron Pond Elementary School. Beginning Friday, May 1st through Monday, June 1st, students are invited to read as many books as they can!

Here’s how it works: for every book your child reads, they’ll complete a Bikes for Books Entry Form and share the title, author, and a short description. Each submitted entry earns them another chance to win—so the more they read, the better their odds!

The grand finale? 🎉 We’ll be raffling off two bikes per grade level during FUN DAY! While participation is optional, this is a fantastic way to encourage a love of reading and celebrate literacy in a big way.

So grab a book, start reading, and get ready for the ride—good luck to all of our readers!

Each time this form is submitted, your student receives one entry into our annual Bikes for Books raffle (to be held at the end of the school year). 📚🏆 We have a champion! 🏆📚

After weeks of reading, voting, and some very tough matchups, our First Grade March Book Madness Tournament has come to an exciting end!

🥁 And the winner is… “Arnie the Doughnut” by Laurie Keller! 🍩

This hilarious and heartwarming story captured the hearts of our first graders as they followed Arnie, a doughnut who makes a surprising discovery about his purpose—only to cleverly change his fate! Instead of being eaten, Arnie convinces Mr. Bing to adopt him as a pet, becoming the one and only “donut dog.” 🐾🍩

Our students loved the humor, creativity, and unexpected friendship in this story. We are so proud of our first graders for their thoughtful voting, great discussions, and excitement for reading throughout the tournament!
