Our Store is open to everyone, and every purchase supports Building Our Families—a local nonprofit helping children and families through difficult times.

When you shop with us, you’re doing more than finding great items. You’re helping provide local, sustainable support to families right here in our community.

SOMETIMES WE SAY NO.

That can be one of the hardest parts of the work we do.

Building Our Families wants to help people move forward, but helping does not always mean saying yes.

Sometimes we say no because the person asking for help is not willing to participate in the plan.

Sometimes we say no because we need more information before we can responsibly help.

Sometimes we say no because the same problem keeps happening and nothing is changing.

Sometimes we say no because paying one more bill will not fix the bigger problem.

And sometimes we say no because we believe the person sitting across from us is capable of doing more than they realize.

Our goal is not to become someone’s long-term solution.

Our goal is to help people build the skills, confidence, resources, and plan they need to manage on their own.

We will work hard for the people we serve.

But we expect them to work hard too.

A “no” does not always mean we do not care. Sometimes it means we care enough to expect something better for the future.

A new space. More possibilities. More families served.

Why are Building Our Families and Our Store moving?

Because we’re growing and we want our space to grow with us!

Our new location at 1504 Morningside Dr. in Milbank will help us continue creating connections, providing resources and serving families throughout our community.

There’s plenty of work ahead before we’re ready to welcome you inside, and we’ll be sharing the journey along the way.

BIG NEWS: WE’RE MOVING!

Building Our Families and Our Store are getting ready for an exciting new chapter!

Our new home will be:
1504 Morningside Dr. Milbank, SD 57252

This move is about so much more than a new address. Our new location will give us opportunities to grow, better serve families, strengthen connections, and continue building something special for our community.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be bringing you behind the scenes as we paint, prepare, pack and MOVE!

Community Kindness Hunt Recipient: Jim Rasset 🎣

Jim Rasset was nominated and chosen as one of our 2026 Community Kindness Hunt recipients!

Jim is a senior youth in Ortonville and an avid fisherman. Most mornings, he heads out to one of his secret fishing spots and often returns with a good catch.

But those fish do not always end up in Jim’s own frying pan. He cleans and bags them, then delivers them to someone in the community who could use a meal, a little encouragement, or a simple act of kindness.

One person who nominated Jim shared that receiving fish from him made for a truly heartwarming meal. His generosity shows that kindness does not have to be complicated. Sometimes, it is simply sharing what you have with someone who needs a lift.

Jim will receive a gift certificate to the bait shop so he can keep doing what he loves while continuing to bless others.

Congratulations, Jim! Thank you for spreading kindness throughout the Ortonville community, one catch at a time! 💛🐟
