💜🎪STEP RIGHT UP! THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON MILAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! 💜🎪

🎩 National School Lunch Week: Cafeteria Circus — Where School Nutrition Takes Center Stage!

Today, we’re shining our spotlight on the amazing ladies of Milan Elementary School Nutrition! 🌟

Behind every delicious meal served is a team of hardworking, dedicated women who put their hearts into nourishing our youngest Bulldogs! 🐾💜

Our MES cafeteria team includes 5 full-time employees, 2 part-time employees, and 2 alternating substitutes, bringing an incredible 52 years of combined experience to the table! That’s 52 years of early mornings, busy kitchens, countless meals, and a whole lot of love served one tray at a time! ❤️

But these ladies do more than prepare and serve nutritious meals. They help create a cafeteria where students feel welcomed, cared for, and encouraged to make healthy choices.

🌱 And the learning doesn’t stop at the cafeteria line! Under the leadership of Mrs. Jones, our MES cafeteria manager, school nutrition becomes a hands-on learning experience! Mrs. Jones works alongside our fourth-grade students through our hydroponic gardening program, teaching them how to grow lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. From planting tiny seeds to caring for their plants and celebrating harvest day, these students are discovering firsthand where their food comes from!

Mrs. Jones is helping plant more than seeds — she’s growing curiosity, healthy habits, and a lifelong appreciation for fresh foods! 💚🌱

It’s a beautiful example of how school nutrition goes far beyond the lunch tray. 💚

As you look through today’s photos, you’ll see these ladies doing what they do best — working together, serving with pride, and making a difference in the lives of our students.

🌟 WHERE SCHOOL NUTRITION TAKES CENTER STAGE! 🌟

It’s National School Lunch Week, and we’re rolling out the red carpet (or should we say the circus carpet!) to celebrate the AMAZING people who make the magic happen in our Milan cafeterias every single day! 💜

🎪 TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT: MILAN MIDDLE SCHOOL! 🎪

Behind every delicious meal is a team of dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to make sure our students are nourished, happy, and ready to learn!

👩‍🍳 Our Milan Middle School cafeteria is powered by 6 full-time and 2 part-time School Nutrition SUPERSTARS who bring an incredible 69 COMBINED YEARS OF SERVICE to our district! 🌟

From a seasoned veteran with 26 years of service to a team member just beginning their journey with 1 year of service, this crew brings experience, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to serving our students.

But their work goes far beyond preparing meals!

💜 They arrive early to get the kitchen ready.

🥦 They prepare nutritious, tasty meals that fuel growing minds and bodies.

🍎 They work together to offer fresh, wholesome choices.

😊 They greet students with smiles and create a welcoming place where everyone belongs.

❤️ And most importantly, they serve with HEART!

🌱🥬 FROM A TINY SEED TO HARVEST DAY! 💜🐾

There was a lot of excitement at Milan Elementary School today — it was finally HARVEST DAY in the cafeteria’s hydroponic garden! 🥬

Mrs. Jones, MES Cafeteria Manager, welcomed Mrs. Browning’s 4th grade class back to see the results of a project they’ve been part of from the very beginning.

These students didn’t just show up for harvest day. 💚

They planted the seeds, watched them sprout, transplanted the seedlings into the hydroponic towers, and helped care for the plants as they grew.

And today…they got to HARVEST THEIR LETTUCE! 🙌🥬

Just look at those plants — and those faces! 😍

This is what we love about bringing hydroponic growing into our cafeterias. Students get a hands-on opportunity to see where food comes from and experience the entire journey from seed → plant → harvest.

It’s more than growing lettuce. 🌱
It’s curiosity. It’s responsibility. It’s learning. And it’s helping our students make a real connection with the fresh foods we serve.

We are so proud of Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Browning and these 4th graders for bringing this project to life! 💜

💜🐾 A LITTLE EXTRA EFFORT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Our School Nutrition staff continues to look for ways to bring more fresh, made-from-scratch flavors to our cafeterias — and today that meant whipping up a big batch of homemade BBQ Ranch Dressing! 🥗

Today’s menu featured a Barbecue Baked Potato, topped off with that freshly made BBQ Ranch, along with Broccoli with Cheese, Rice Pilaf and Baked Beans. Students could also choose from our fresh veggie and fruit bar to complete their meal. 🍊🥦🥒🍅

Making items from scratch takes a little more time and a little more effort, but that’s exactly what makes it special. Our cafeteria teams aren’t simply serving meals — they’re continually working to make school meals fresh, flavorful and something our students can look forward to. 💜

🥗 LEARNING IS ON THE MENU AT MILAN ELEMENTARY! 💜🐾

The cafeteria became a classroom as our 4th graders participated in CHEF Labs with Chef Keir Haley!

CHEF — Children’s Health through Education and Food — gives students the opportunity to learn about food and nutrition through hands-on experiences.

During today’s lab, our young chefs rolled up their sleeves and made their own French dressing! 🥣 They then put their creation to the taste test by sampling it with fresh salad greens and cucumber slices. 🥬🥒

Experiences like CHEF Labs are about so much more than preparing a recipe. They encourage students to explore new foods, learn where flavors come from, develop kitchen skills, and discover that nutritious foods can be delicious, too.

And sometimes the best way to get a child excited about trying something new is to let them have a hand in making it! 💜

A big thank you to Chef Keir Haley for bringing food, education, and fun together for our students. 👏👩‍🍳

We tried something new on the menu today, and Cheeseburger Penne was a HIT! 🎉

All those familiar cheeseburger flavors came together in a warm, cheesy pasta dish that had our students digging in!
