Playing music in the rain ๐
Risky play and mixed-age groups give children opportunities to grow in ways that canโt be taught through worksheets or screens.
When kids climb, explore, problem solve, and navigate challenges together, they build confidence, resilience, and independence. In mixed-age groups, older children naturally step into leadership roles while younger children learn through observation, imitation, and encouragement.
One of the most beautiful things to witness is children helping each other โ offering a hand on a muddy trail, teaching a new skill, comforting a friend, or cheering each other on. These moments build empathy, confidence, and a true sense of community. ๐ค
Outdoor play gives children the space to become capable, connected, and confident in themselves.

Where Nature Meets Creativity
At Dogwood Nature School, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens outsideโwhere children can move freely, explore deeply, and express themselves naturally. When you combine nature + the arts, something truly special happens
Music becomes more joyful under the open sky.
Art becomes more meaningful when inspired by real leaves, flowers, and sunlight.
And children? They become more confident, creative, and connected ๐
Outdoor environments have been shown to support stronger focus, reduced stress, and increased creativityโand when we layer in music, movement, and art, children are able to express themselves in ways that feel natural and exciting.
