Midland Community Band

What an amazing week to be a Midland Community Band member!!! First off, at the beginning of the week, Mr. Swails and some of our members had the honor of being the house band for the PBS Christmas Special! Dr. Mark MacDonald did the arrangements for the group, and the band sounded great!! Make sure to catch the broadcast on PBS on December 18th.
We rounded up our week with High Plains Exploration(our most amazing sponsor) donating an ENTIRE drum kit to one of our young student members! Miss Lainey Booker is a treasure and is a committed member of our ensemble and organization. Although young, she is top notch when it comes to her talent and perfomance skills. In our opinion...WELL DESERVED! Anything to help enrich our young musician's love of music will only help guarantee success in their future. Mr. Swails and Mr. Harrill(percussion extraordinaire) went to the Booker's home to get her all set up and ready for some serious practice. Congratulations, Miss Booker!!! We look forward to seeing what your future holds.

We would like to wish the Happiest of Birthdays to our one and only Honorary Band Member, Sarah Kamman Boering !!!! Without her, our intermissions and performances would not be what they are today. Happy Birthday!!!

Dust off that instrument ... it’s time to play again! The Midland Community Band is open to anyone with past band experience, no auditions required. Whether it’s been years since you last played or you’re fresh from high school/college, we’d love to have you join.

What a stupendous day for the Midland Community Band!!!! Our Director, Mr. Swails, along with a few of our members had the opportunity to play in the reading band for MISD's Fine Arts Department PD. Three hours of reading music with great discussion to follow!!! Thank you to Ms. Jordan Frazier(Abell Junior High Band Director), Mr. Raul Villanueva(Midland Freshman Band Director), and Mrs. Caryn Herrick Crutchfield(Fine Arts Administrator) for the invitation and the opportunity to do some minor outreach in our community. A great fun time was had and so much information was shared. Looking forward to everyone having a great year with their students.

Camp has come to a close!!! All the students and faculty are now on their way home from performing superior concerts and having a spectacular camp. What a thrill to share the love of music with our students. Such an honor for us to be able to offer them the opportunity to learn from masters of their instruments. Bravo tutti!!! We are looking forward to taking as many as we can again next summer.

Mr. Swails met with our camp kiddos for a pizza dinner!! The week long camp at West Texas A&M is over the halfway point, but the kids and staff are working diligently every day to put on concerts for 7 bands this coming Saturday. Over 950 campers here in Canyon this week, and our Community Band kiddos are rocking it!!!!!!

Happy 4th, everyone!! Thanks for joining the Midland Community Band for a great afternoon of music!! The raffle went off with out a hitch, and Warren Frazier did a great job conducting the band on Stars and Stripes this year. Bravo to the band on a great day of music!!!!!
