Wellllcome back Sneggies!! Happy 2026 🥳 We are so excited for the new year to come, and and we want to share a recap of this past fall and j-term 💚💚

Slides 1, 5, 9: No Kings Rally! A cohort of Middlebury students, along with the town of Middlebury/ , gathered together to protest recent threats to our democracy ✊✊

Slides 2, 7: Old growth forest walk 🌲🌲 A group of SNEG students, led by Board President Mark Nelson, enjoyed a short hike at the Middlebury Breadloaf campus to see some old growth trees and to learn about the environmental benefits of old growth forests 🪵🌿

Slides 3, 6, 10: What Works Now? 🤔✍️ SNEG hosted an environmental conference in honor of the club’s 20th anniversary, along with 60 years of the Environmental Studies Program and 5 years of the Climate Action Program. We invited back SNEG alumni, engaged in cutting-edge climate conversations, and amplified our institutional memory 🌳📚

Slide 4: Trail maintenance day 🔨🔨 A group of SNEG students joined Mt. Abraham’s .abe_eag to do trail maintenance on the Battell trail with the Green Mountain Club 🥾⛰️

Slide 8: Geothermal Energy Workshop 💡🌀 One of SNEG’s campaign groups hosted a j-term workshop to explore the possibilities of networked geothermal energy as a cleaner way to heat our campus. They brought in guest speakers, and shared their individual research 🔎🔎

TOMORROW! We will be walking from the Chapel at 11 to the town green. Bring your signs, get ready for live music (including a student band), speakers, and lots of energy — and don’t forget to bring your friends!

Just to be clear, this is a peaceful, family-friendly rally. The goal is to exercise our First Amendment rights and to defend democracy in a nonpartisan manner.

For those of you who are not U.S. citizens, please note that there will be photographers there.
