Congratulations to FIU Honors College Dean’s Advisory Board member and Faculty Fellow, Dr. Fang Shu, on receiving a proclamation from the City of North Miami Beach recognizing his exemplary contributions to education, philanthropy, community engagement, and leadership. 💙

The proclamation specifically states: "Dr. Shu developed and continues to teach two philanthropy courses in the FIU Honors College. Over the past six years, he has partnered with philanthropic and community leaders to create meaningful learning experiences for more than 400 students through his philanthropy education.”

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Shu’s lasting impact on our students, the Honors College, and the South Florida community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

The FIU Honors College mourns the passing of Mrs. Caryl Myers Grof, former Assistant Dean, beloved professor, mentor, and advocate for generations of students. Beginning her FIU journey in 1980, Caryl dedicated decades to empowering students through teaching, mentorship, and unwavering support. Even after her retirement in 2004, she continued teaching Honors first-year courses through 2010, leaving a lasting impact on countless alumni, faculty, and staff members.

Known for her compassion, wisdom, and encouragement, Caryl helped shape the Honors College into a nurturing and supportive community. She was deeply admired by her colleagues, as Juan C. Lopez, Honors College IT Manager, shared:

“Not only did Caryl help create a nurturing environment for students but also help guide staff and faculty members through the rigors and challenges of administrative and academic life. Her influence and impact on me as a student and a young staff member then helped me become a better administrator and mentor later in life at FIU.”

Her legacy lives on through the many students and colleagues she inspired throughout her remarkable career. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. 💙
