It's a beautiful Sunday here in Philly! I'm feeling nostalgic...

I remember being homeless and hungry as a child on the streets of Ghana. My mother had come to America and left me to be cared for, but I ended up on the street, alone and knowing the hollow feeling of hunger. Now, when I visit Ghana, I cannot see children on the street and not empty my pockets for them.

When I see them, I see me. I am immediately inspired to humility.

I am inspired toward happiness when I see a woman, smiling, looking and feeling fabulous in her own skin, dripping in her own self-love. I can’t help but to be inspired to emanate my own self-love.

The struggle that exists in Africa is palpable and potent in its pe*******on of the person. I’ve used its potency and cultural diversity to create potential for myself to achieve my dreams.

One of my dreams was to create a boutique where women could find clothing that uses authentic and beautiful Ankara fabrics made in Africa.

Myself and a few friends created Africana Boutique, where women like us, who have suffered the horrors of ordering clothes online that looked great, but when they arrived, didn’t meet our expectations.

I insist on clothes that make a woman want to take a selfie and share herself with the world. I’m inviting you to share in the dream of a girl from Ghana who dared to dream even when she didn’t know where her next meal was coming from.

African Fashion is a feeling, a lifestyle, a way for us to express ourselves, show appreciation for our bodies and show up in the world as our authentic selves.
