As Professor Les predicted last year on the Discovery 664 Academy Podcast, on February 11, 2026 the Congressional Budget Office released its updated Budget and Economic Outlook, projecting that the Old Age and Survivors Insurance trust fund could be depleted in 2032, one year earlier than previously estimated.
Social Security currently provides benefits to about 70 million Americans. The updated CBO projection aligns with recent reporting and reflects changes in financial outlook compared to last year’s estimates.
When combining both trust funds, retirement and disability, the projected exhaustion date is 2033 if no legislative changes occur.
