🎤 The IEP Checklist Schools Don't Share: What Parents Need to Know Before the Meeting

We'll discuss practical strategies to help parents feel more prepared, confident, and informed before their next IEP meeting.

As both a Special Education Advocate and autism mom, I know firsthand how overwhelming the process can feel. My goal is to help families better understand their rights, ask the right questions, and advocate effectively for their children.

If you're attending The Family Café, please stop by and say hello after the presentation, I would love to meet you!

💙 See you there!

Tomorrow is the last day of school for many students.

Before we jump into summer, I want to encourage parents to pause and reflect.

It's easy to focus on what still needs improvement, but today let's celebrate the wins.

Maybe your child learned a new skill, gained confidence, made a friend, became more independent, or reached an important goal.

And parents...

Please take a moment to celebrate yourselves too.

Advocating, supporting, encouraging, attending meetings, managing appointments, and showing up day after day is not easy.

Your child is where they are today because of your love, dedication, and persistence.

💙 What is one win you're celebrating this school year?

Share below—I would love to celebrate with you.

Parents often focus so much on what still needs to improve that they forget how much progress has already happened.

Take a moment to celebrate the small wins too 💙

Advocacy is not perfection.
It’s persistence, love, and showing up again and again.

Summer Is the BEST Time to Prepare for Next School Year

When my daughters were younger and on summer break, I realized something important:

Summer gave me the time and mental space to truly reflect on what happened during the school year — what worked, what didn’t, and what needed to change moving forward.

Without the daily stress of homework, schedules, and school routines, I was able to:

✔ review progress more clearly
✔ organize records and evaluations
✔ think ahead about goals
✔ plan proactively for the next school year

And honestly… it helped me stay focused and much less overwhelmed.

Small preparation now can make such a big difference later 💙

Before the school year ends, take a moment to review your child’s progress and supports.

Even if schools are wrapping up quickly, this is still an important time to reflect on:
✔ what worked
✔ what didn’t
✔ what skills still need support
✔ what should be prioritized next school year

Ask yourself:
• Is my child making meaningful progress?
• Are supports and accommodations helping?
• Was ESY considered if regression is a concern?
• What goals should be prioritized next year?

Summer is also a great time to:
☀️ continue academic support
☀️ build independence skills
☀️ reinforce routines and confidence

Small preparation now can help create a smoother start next school year 💙

Happy Mother’s Day to the incredible warrior moms who fight every single day for their children. 💙🌸

The moms who stay up late researching, attend countless meetings, advocate fearlessly, wipe away tears, celebrate every victory, and never give up — even on the hardest days.

Your strength, love, patience, and determination do not go unnoticed. You are your child’s greatest advocate, safest place, and biggest champion.

Today we celebrate YOU and all that you do for your children and families. Thank you for showing the world what unconditional love truly looks like.

From Confusion to Clarity — together, we keep moving forward. 💙

If your child is struggling in school, it may not mean they are incapable — it may mean they need a different path, different supports, or a different approach.

Not every student thrives in the same environment, and success does not look the same for every child.

There are many meaningful pathways after high school, including:
✔ Career & Technical Education (CTE)
✔ Apprenticeships
✔ Vocational programs
✔ College pathways
✔ Employment supports

The goal is not to force one path.
The goal is to find the RIGHT fit for your child’s strengths, interests, and future.

💙 Your child’s future is full of possibility.

If your child has an IEP, transition planning should not wait until high school.

The earlier you start, the more prepared your child will be for life after school.
