On Wednesday, March 11, the owners of Xennial Digital met and made the decision to wind down the company.
Xennial was founded in 2018 and developed early work on Magic Leap, including climate-change visualization experiences, and was recognized as an innovative XR company. It began with a focus on K12 schools emphasizing hands-on STEM learning and then moved into workforce programs like aviation maintenance training programs and career-tech education. Beyond commercial work, Xennial highlighted social-impact initiatives, including projects in Guatemala and Colombia bringing XR into education and addressing issues like climate awareness and landmine risk.
It’s difficult to write that Xennial is closing because the work—and the people behind it—were genuinely exceptional. The team approached every project with a level of craft that set a high bar, particularly in complex domains like aviation and technical training. The clients and subject matter experts saw the benefits of VR training in the classroom and particularly to help students that want to learn hands on instead of from texts or presentations, and their knowledge and experience shows in the applications.
In the end, this wasn’t a failure of capability or commitment—the reality is that the broader XR market has not yet matured enough to consistently sustain this level of work. Grant money is difficult and schools have not adopted VR at a scale to make product development profitable.
Xennial has communicated with all of its clients and partners, and has been able to return the applications owned by different universities to them. Members of the team have gone on to form new ventures and continue their work in technology.

Thank you to the clients, partners, and team who were part of the journey.

"Our lead instructor wanted students to somehow have x-ray vision to see inside the PT6 engine… With VR, that’s exactly what they got.”
— Paul Holloman, Lorenzo Walker Technical College, during the ATEC Webinar with Xennial
With immersive VR, students don’t just study engines—they see how they work. From airflow to fuel flow in the Lycoming O-320 and PT6, VR builds confidence, saves resources, and makes the invisible visible.
With Xennial VR, “x-ray vision” is now part of aviation education.
