It is election day! Please remember to go out and perform your civic duty. Below are the department of elections websites for the tri-county area (i.e. Miami-Dade County, Broward County and West Palm County). Review your corresponding website to be election day ready! You can locate your voting precinct and also view a sample of your ballot before heading out to your designated voting precinct. By law employers are required to allow you to leave your job in order to go vote, so there is no excuse not to vote! Voting precincts close at 7PM.

Applications are now being accepted for the
Fausto B. Gomez Scholarship in Political Science
Eligibility
1. Must be a full-time student who has completed at least 60 credits;
2. Must be a declared major in political science;
3. Must show financial need as determined by Financial Aid;
4. Must have a 3.4 or greater GPA; and
5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who was born in, or whose parents were born in a Spanish-speaking nation in Latin America or the Caribbean.
Application Date: Due by March 15, 2013
Application
Must submit a typewritten essay of no more than three pages (double-spaced, 12 pt font) describing the reasons that led her or him to seek a degree in political science, their interest in public affairs, and their professional aspirations.
The following must be submitted to the Office Manager in the Department of Politics and International Relations (SIPA 440) not later than 5 pm on the application date:
a) A cover letter including the applicant’s contact information, the name of the scholarship to which the student is applying and an affirmative statement the applicant meets the above criteria;
b) the essay;
c) a current copy of the applicant’s unofficial transcripts; and
d) a copy of the applicant’s latest determination of need from Financial Aid.

Renewal
The Fausto B. Gomez Scholarship in Political Science may be renewed for one additional year provided the recipient has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher in each term he or she is a recipient, is making steady progress toward a degree, and can demonstrate financial need.
Award Amount
$1200.00 for 2013-14 for tuition.
Award Announcement
Award will be presented at the Department’s annual end-of-year awards ceremony on April 12, 2013 and recipient will later meet with Mr. Fausto B. Gomez at his invitation.
