We realize there is a huge need for academic programs designed specifically for a unique type of learner with Autism, specifically ages 5 - 7 years old. Do you know a parent that is overwhelmed and let down ov the lack of educational opportunities for their young child with Autism? Frustrated by the large classroom sizes in self-contained Autism classrooms in public schools? If so, please share this flyer with them.
A few years ago the average amount of students in a self contained Autism unit was 7 students to 1 certified teacher and a paraprofessional. Nowadays, the average is 10-12 students per classroom. It is very difficult to give each child the individual attention they require with so many students in a class. Many private schools deny students that have more unique needs or they don't have the professionals with the necessary background or skills to teach students with Autism that also need to practice social, emotional and functional skills.
We feel it is our duty to create a program to help these parents and students as much as we can. In the Fall of 2024 we will only be able to start with 6 students but it is the small part we can take in a very large problem. Hopefully in the future we will be able to facilitate more students. We encourage you to write to the Special Education department at the Miami Dade Count Public Schoo district to encourage them to find ways to hire or train more teachers that specialize in Autism. We know it is true there are a lack of experienced and qualified teachers but we believe there are wavs to motivate more teachers to stud and become teachers for learners with Autism. There is also a high percent of teachers for kids with Autism that quit after just 3 yrs. If teachers could be allowed to spend more time teaching and creating meaningful lessons and less time completing paperwork then the average dropout rate may be much smaller.
Share our flyer. Contact the school district. Attend district meetings. Talk to other professionals. Let's not give up on our students. Every child deserves an opportunity to receive the best education possible.

In Ancient Civilizations class, our students drew flags that represent them. We love seeing them express themselves and seeing how happy it makes them! 💛

This was a really fun and yummy way to use different forms of heat energy to make popcorn! The students used convection, radiation and conduction to make popcorn and then got to vote on their favorite! We even got lab sheets from TPT to reinforce vocab words!

One of our students taught the other students how to crochet! She bought "teach a class" with her Class DOJO points and even put together a power point for her lesson! We are so proud of her! We know it's not easy to get up there in front of your peers and speak publicly but it's great practice! We also know it might of been hard to manage a class of children who have never crocheted before asking questions simultaneously! 🤣
