The Quran frequently instructs believers to follow, obey, and love Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as a crucial component of faith. Key verses establish that obeying the Messenger is equivalent to obeying God (4:80), he is a “good example” for those seeking Allah (33:21), and taking what he gives while refraining from what he prohibits is mandatory (59:7).

Key Quranic principles on following Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) include:
Love Allah by Following the Messenger: “Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins...’” (3:31).
Obedience equals Divine Obedience: “Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah” (4:80).
A Perfect Model: “In God’s messenger you have indeed a good example for everyone who looks forward with hope to God and the Last Day” (33:21).
Guidance in Following Him: “...Obey him, you shall be on the right guidance” (24:54).
Accepting His Authority: The Quran instructs followers to take what the messenger gives them and refrain from what he forbids (59:7).

forgiveness ❤️‍🩹
Seek forgiveness with God! Certainly, God is Ever Forgiving [and] Merciful.” [Qurʾān: 73:20]

Dua for the Forgiveness of Major Sins in Islam

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,

“By the One in Whose Hand my soul is! If you do not commit sins, Allah would replace you with a people who would commit sins and seek forgiveness from Allah; and Allah will certainly forgive them.”

[Muslim] Riyad as-Salihin 1871

In another place, Hadith said:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي ‏”‏ ‏.‏

“Say: ‘Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).’”

Sunan Ibn Majah 3850

The above dua (supplication) is told by the Messenger of Allah for Laylatul-Qadr the night in which Muslims seek forgiveness.

It is important to fulfill the following four conditions when making a specific dua for forgiveness for a particular sin:

admit it,
express regret,
seek forgiveness,
and promise not to repeat it.
