Today is World Cancer Day

Did you know breastfeeding reduces your risk of ovarian cancer by 21%? Breastfeeding also reduces the risk of breast cancer by 28% if they breastfeed for longer than 12 months.

So interesting, right?

Hey there!! Sorry I’ve been MIA. I’ve been busy working with amazing mamas and babes. I’m back though with some new and updated breastfeeding tips for you!!

Engorgement:

Often a day or two after moms get home from the hospital their breasts become very engorged once their milk comes in. Sometimes this makes it difficult for a baby to latch. Here are some tips to help your babe:

💧 use a warm wet cloth on your breasts for 10-15 mins

💧 put your baby skin to skin for 15 minutes

💧 gently massage your breasts from your chest wall towards your ni***es for 10 minutes

💧 soak your breasts in a clean basin of warm water. the milk will start flowing into the water

💧 take a warm shower

💧 hand express milk out before each feeding

Most importantly, take some deep slow breaths and keep calm. When you are call your milk will flow easily 🙏🏻

Since it’s World Premie Day, I thought I’d talk about cup feeding breastmilk to premies if you are unable to put them to your breast.

Cup feeding is a preferred method to try before bottle feeding because when you cup feed a premie there is

👶 less increase in heart rate

👶better oxygenation

👶it gives the baby the ability to pace their own feeding
