Red Mountain ED Prof students are stepping into STEM in the best way 👟✨

Yesterday, our future educators designed and created their own shoes using the STIIX Fashion/Sneaker STEM kit—and the results were incredible! From creative designs to thoughtful explanations, students showcased not only their innovation but their ability to teach and communicate their thinking.

The collaboration in the room was next level—true teamwork in action! 🙌

Hands-on learning + creativity + collaboration = STEM at its best.

Mrs. Frank’s class at Fremont Junior High is making waves with the STIIX Boat Project! 🚤

Using Arizona Science Standards, students designed and built prototype boats that must float and safely carry their team across the pool. Through this hands-on challenge, they applied:
• Engineering Design (3–5.E1 / MS.ETS1): Define problems, build, test, and improve solutions
• Forces & Interactions (Physical Science): Explore buoyancy, balance, and stability
• Science & Engineering Practices: Investigate, analyze data, and redesign

This project brings learning to life through collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world problem solving. We can’t wait to see their final boats in action! 🌊

Mrs. Phillips’ 4th grade class at Pomeroy Elementary is putting their STEM skills to work by designing and creating their own compasses! 🧭✨

Through this hands-on investigation, students are exploring how Earth’s magnetic field helps with navigation while applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

This learning connects to Arizona Science Standards:
🔹 4.E2U1.4 – Analyze data to explain patterns of Earth’s features and processes
🔹 4.P4U1.1 – Investigate how forces (like magnetism) affect motion
🔹 Science & Engineering Practices – Planning investigations and designing solutions

Students are also building Portrait of a Graduate skills as critical thinkers, collaborators, and innovators!

🧠🔬 Future medical detectives in action!

Students in Mrs. Frank’s Medical Detectives class at Fremont Junior High took their learning to the next level by dissecting sheep brains—getting an up-close look at the structures and functions of the nervous system. Through hands-on investigation, students explored how different parts of the brain control behavior, movement, and vital processes.

This engaging experience connects directly to Arizona Science Standards for middle school, including:
✔️ Understanding the structure and function of body systems (7.L1U1)
✔️ Developing and using models to explain how cells, tissues, and organs interact (7.L1U1)
✔️ Analyzing how systems work together to support life (8.L1U1)
✔️ Using evidence to explain how form relates to function in living systems (8.L1U1)

Learning like this empowers students to think critically, ask questions, and see themselves in future STEM careers. 🧬✨

🧬🕵️‍♀️ Investigating the human body—one discovery at a time!

Students in Mrs. Frank’s Medical Detectives class at Franklin Junior High School stepped into the role of scientists as they explored the complexities of the brain through a hands-on sheep brain dissection. This powerful experience gave students the opportunity to examine real structures, make observations, and draw connections between brain anatomy and function.

Aligned to Arizona Science Standards, students engaged in:
✔️ Exploring how body systems are organized and interact to carry out life processes (7.L1U1)
✔️ Analyzing the relationship between structure and function in living systems (8.L1U1)
✔️ Using evidence-based reasoning to support scientific explanations

By combining curiosity with real-world application, students are building critical thinking skills and gaining insight into future pathways in health and medical sciences.

Mrs. Grantham’s 1st graders at Mendoza are already thinking like engineers and problem-solvers! 🤖✨

Students are diving into the world of coding using VEX 123 robotics—building foundational skills in sequencing, critical thinking, and collaboration while having a blast. It’s amazing to see our youngest learners confidently exploring STEM and bringing their ideas to life!

The future is bright at Mendoza! đź’ˇ
