Support During Pregnancy - Equity Team
Doulas provide culturally appropriate emotional, physical, and advocacy support during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. They help connect women to resources, reduce stress, and support self-advocacy within healthcare systems.
Research shows that indigenous doulas strengthen cultural connection by integrating traditions, language, and community knowledge into care. This support helps reduce fear, and improves trust, while empowering mothers to have a more positive birth experience.
Indigenous doulas play a key role in addressing gaps in care caused by systemic inequities and improving maternal outcomes through culturally grounded support.
