Kevin W. McKinney Music this is the page of musician and educator Kevin W. McKinney. www.kevinwmckinney.com Kevin W. Kevin has maintained a private teaching studio for over fifteen years.

McKinney is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator originally from the Cleveland area. Kevin earned a bachelor's degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in Jazz & Improvised Music from the University of Nevada, Reno. Kevin performs regularly on various instruments in a wide range of musical settings including jazz, hip hop, classical, freely improvised

music and others. Kevin plays a Gen 1 Yamaha Custom Z alto saxophone with a Vandoren Jumbo Java Blue Reissue A45 mouthpiece and a size 2.5 Vandoren red box reed. While saxophone is Kevin's main performing instrument, he began studying piano at age 4. Over the past decade Kevin has played piano/keyboards with many different performing groups, worked as an accompanist with vocalists/performing arts groups, led parish bands and music teams, written and performed various solo piano works, written and arranged pieces for groups across the country, and led a working piano trio in the Ann Arbor area. Kevin considers the piano to be an integral part of his musical journey. Kevin recently ended his tenure as the Director of Music Education at Go Like The Wind Montessori in Whitmore Lake, Michigan to care for his newborn twins, Owen and Giorgia.

In one week I am releasing a single from my upcoming album, 'The Only Path'!

The tune, 'Matter Of Time', is one of 10 on an album that I composed, recorded and engineered entirely myself in my home studio..

My talented wife Margaret McKinney added some wonderful harmonies to a few tunes and my best friend Henry Rensch added some amazing guitar solos to a few as well..

Other than that, everything you will be hearing was carefully pieced together over the course of a little over a year...

I've done more transcriptions in the last 6 months than I did in 6 years of school...
Here's the hardest/nastiest one yet.
David Binney on Ortigia from a Francesco Cataldo album called 'Spaces'.
I have loved this solo for such a long but it's just so ridiculous and has taken me a while to notate and execute..this is the best take I could get, some of the lines are just too saucy to get perfectly lol.
