Bryan Blankenship, an artist and 3-D Shop Technician with the Art & Design department at the University of Memphis, is pictured with his recently commissioned artwork, Tennessee Mosaic, created for Stones River Group (SRG) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The commissioned work presents a contemporary interpretation of Tennessee through an energetic arrangement of color, form, and texture. Taking the recognizable silhouette of the state as its foundation, Blankenship developed a richly layered composition of abstract and geometric forms that reflects Tennessee’s varied landscapes, communities, culture, and creative character.
Tennessee Mosaic was created specifically for Stones River Group, where the artwork brings an original, Tennessee-centered visual statement to the firm’s Nashville environment. The commission reflects the ability of site-specific artwork to create a meaningful connection between an organization, its surroundings, and the broader community it serves.
Blankenship’s artistic practice frequently explores the relationships between shape, color, texture, place, and identity. In Tennessee Mosaic, individual elements function much like pieces of a larger visual mosaic—distinct in character while contributing to a unified composition. The resulting work offers a contemporary celebration of the state while inviting viewers to discover new details, relationships, and visual rhythms throughout the piece.
