It's the season for year-end giving, and planning for 2024 12/24/2023

A wonderful article from The Daily Memphian featuring Sutton Mora of Community Foundation of Greater Memphis that covers a lot of ground on charitable giving in Memphis and the United States. Best of all, it underscores the importance of how public policy matters to giving (see: Charitable Act and the consequences of 2017 tax reform bill). This is an important read for donors and nonprofits! The Charitable Giving Coalition and National Council of Nonprofits get a deserved shout out, too.

It's the season for year-end giving, and planning for 2024 Memphis philanthropy: For local nonprofits, now is the time to bring in holiday-inspired donations and to set the table for 2024.

Do we really need a budget? | Saad&Shaw 11/08/2023

"Whether you are a grassroots organization or an established and successful nonprofit you have to project revenue and expenses and manage your cashflow. Like fundraising, you can’t delegate this responsibility to someone else and have them 'take care of it.' Incorporating the budgeting process into all aspects of an organization creates solutions, avoids disasters, and builds sustainability."

Thanks to Saad&Shaw - Comprehensive Fund Development Services for collaborating with our COO, John Bazzanella, on this blog series!

ACTION ALERT! The Charitable Act would restore the non-itemizer charitable deduction to one-third of the standard deduction. In 2023, this change would allow taxpayers who don’t itemize to claim a deduction for charitable giving up to approximately $4,600 for individuals/$9,200 for joint filers, in addition to claiming the standard deduction itself. The deduction in the bill would be in effect for taxable years 2023 and 2024 and indexed for inflation. Sign on now!
