Our Story

ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County is a Community/School Partnership program that seeks to replicate www.arise2read.org. The ARISE slogan is "Save a child to save a family to save a city." The mission of ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County is to enrich the quality of life in Jackson-Madison County through community involvement with our public schools.

ARISE is an acronym for A Renewal In Student Education. The education pillar of the program is a literacy initiative called Team Read. ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County, pairs community members and schools and recruits volunteers for Team Read and to meet other needs of the schools.

Together, ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County, supports the literacy goals of Jackson-Madison County Schools as stated by Academic Dean Dr. Jared Myracle. Our program provides opportunities to strengthen students and their families, and has the potential to change the trajectory of their lives for generations to come.

Poverty, crime and economic development are directly linked to reading failure. Evidence shows that children who do not read proficiently by 4th grade often fail to catch up and are more likely to drop out of school, take drugs, or go to prison. ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County seeks to have all children reading on grade level by third grade and to encourage community involvement.

ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County believes helping disadvantaged children rise above the trap of poverty will not only change a child, a family and a city; it is also a mandate from Christ to love our neighbor and to care for the poor. For people in our community who are eager to serve, ARISE2Read Jackson-Madison County creates a path.
