Katherine Johnson: The Human Computer Who Helped Launch a Nation

Katherine Johnson was a brilliant mathematician whose calculations were crucial to NASA’s early space missions. Her work ensured the success of historic flights, including John Glenn’s orbit around Earth in 1962. Despite facing racial and gender barriers, Johnson’s contributions proved that excellence knows no boundaries.

Her story, highlighted in the movie Hidden Figures, reminds us that STEM fields thrive when diverse voices are included. At Legacy Academy of Excellence, we encourage our students to reach for the stars, just like Katherine Johnson did.

Carter G. Woodson – The Father of Black History

Carter G. Woodson founded Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month, to ensure Black contributions were recognized and celebrated. His legacy is education, and his excellence reshaped American history.
