My father went to Kenya in college. He studied at LeMoyne-Owen College, our local HBCU in Memphis, and traveled to Africa as part of his education. He came back changed. He tried to pass it through coffee.
I refused. Every time. Not because it was bad. Because the only version of Kenyan coffee I had ever encountered was Starbucks. Burnt, over-roasted, stripped of everything that made it worth tasting. I didnāt know what I was rejecting.
