VAULT 004

Before there was a roastery, there was a folding table.
Before there was a brand, there was a blessing.

My mother priced her work herself. Looked the buyer in the eye when the cash changed hands. No middleman, no platform taking a cut. They called it informal. We call it the prototype.

The flea market. The basket aisle at the church bake sale. The brother selling oils from the trunk. That table built Black wealth a hundred years before anybody had an app for it.

Friday we put it on two shirts.

Degentrify Coffee is the politic out loud. The shirt you wear into the cafe pricing your culture at a cup missing the soul.

Gifts from the Heart is the practice underneath it. A basket on the chest. And on the back, a blessing half Oromo, half Memphis:

May your hood lack no coffee nor the peace of God.
The roastery was never the goal. It’s just the table getting bigger.

Pull up to Side Hustle Flea Market for a special love print of the blessing.

Available online for 72 hours only.
$35 each. $60 for the pair.

Turns out all our mothers made baskets. Before the internet. Before YouTube University. Before ChatGPT and digital consultants. There were mothers making a way out of rivers of no way. 🧺

In Dzobego, Ghana 🇬🇭, that’s a coffee harvest in those baskets. Same basket your grandmother carried at the flea market. Same basket the Hadha Siqqee carries in the Guji Zone.

On the road into the village, the flower stands stretch for yards. Handmade, wrapped with care, lined up where everybody passes. Nobody rented a storefront. The product is the marketing. The road is the shelf.

Nobody taught the others. We’ve all been running the same business. 🧺☕️

Tables set up on corners for the holidays. Whole family packed in, sweating at the flea market.

That’s how the next generation of entrepreneurs got made.

Supply chains were being remembered before the coffee economists ever warned us the harvests were running out. The future isn’t being created. It’s being remembered. The mother land was never interrupted, because the women never stopped. 🖤☕️

This Saturday we’re bringing it back. Side Hustle Flea, live at Cxffeeblack HQ. Comment if you pulling up or you wanna vend. We got us. ✊🏾

Comment BASKET if you pulling up to the FLEA family. 🏡

We’ve always had us. And our mothers have always had the space route.

Community and accountability through family innovation has been the hustle holiday set ups on the corners before church.
And we will continue holy hustle to until we make it wholly Home.

All community vendors welcome family. Especially if you selling dashikis or knock off jordans 💫

Neighbors vend for free.

Only 5 spots remaining.

“You know in a lot of ways coffee is like hip hop. When you think about it, what is a seed, but nature’s sample? Like a thumb drive. All this information from the past distilled into this small piece, and you can plug it into the ground, plug it into yourself, and use that life, that energy, to propel you. And what do we do when grinding it? We chop it up, like a sample, and then distill those bits and pieces down to its most soluble parts. Afterwards, we download all the data, the notes and tastes of all the plants and animals and beings that left their mark in the ground before it, get downloaded in our bodies, passing their energy to create new futures. That’s hip hop. Chopping the notes of the past, to be downloaded and recontextualized in the present, as a canvas for our seeds to reimagine a new peace, a new nagaya in the future.”

We honor the Root/route, and we celebrate its Fruit.

The knowledge that there’s no mistakes, no missed stops, only the elevation of the Story’s glorious conclusion. That our journey, destination, and ultimate Origin are worthy of honor, of retracing, of reconnecting, and remixing.

Next month will be doing our first screening of our three documentaries for the first time in almost over a year, with a very special guest. We cannot wait to share these moments with you. This drop from the vault is honors that journey, and celebrate our next return.

Available for 72 hours only.
