POV: Legacy with Mrs. RUBY BRIDGES! [Swipe to end]. Recently, I joined my very special friend and icon ✨MRS. RUBY BRIDGES ✨ and the very talented Nikkolas Smith Nikkolas Smith at the National Civil Rights Museum (National Civil Rights Museum ) for this year’s Ruby Bridges Reading Festival ( 📍Memphis, TN). Nurturing such a special friendship and joining at such important events—well, it’s hard to put into words but it’s incredibly impactful and meaningful…and something I always carry with me. everywhere.

I also had the pleasure of donating school supplies to help fill backpacks for back-to-school. The goal? That these help shape larger conversations and build whole spaces.

Memphis, thank you!!

To hold Mrs. Ruby’s hand, to hug her—to listen and learn from her while literally sitting next to her leaves me—in a word—EMPOWERED (swipe). And to see my books in the National Civil Rights Museum. 🤯 I am but one of millions whose life is changed by the wisdom and lessons found here (More on that soon.). Happy Back-to-School. Launching More than Peach in 2019 simply (complicated enough) was to make room for MORE (It’s been a busy summer, y’all.). I’m excited to finally share that—as owner & chief executive (and crayon!) officer—I’m now also part of the 1st Kids Advisory Board Acorns Early Acorns !! 🐿️ I’m also here to tell you that vane is even more adorable & brilliant in person.🙂

What I know:

POV: I was there!🤯 INVITED to read my children’s book BALLET BROWN at the Obama Presidential Center Obama Presidential Library for opening weekend! What an honor to spend Juneteenth weekend connecting with our history, President Obama’s remarkable legacy, and joining in the advocacy for the future we want to see. So incredibly special to take BALLET BROWN from the shelves and sit in the same chair and in the same space to read to kids as Mr and Mrs. Obama did just one day before (swipe). (I def got to share More than Peach crayons too.) And the museum?? CHILLS. I watched as my parents and others were literally moved to tears, part nostalgia/ part hope—all pride. One thing I know is that this is a safe space for sure. And it’s meant for you…and you…and me. (More to come;))♥️~Bellen

With The Conscious Kid and back at Stanford University for the second time in a few weeks and the conference-the convening-were incredible!! It was an incredible honor to join an amazing panel of authors and other very special guests including Mychal Threets & Children's Book Author Derrick Barnes, educators and community members for discussions around "equity and justice in children's literacy education.” Yep, it's about forging pathways and preserving safe spaces, you know...letting kids be kids and giving them their best options.🙂 But wait.

Yo! Followed the rainbow to Stanford University —with The Conscious Kid, LeVar Burton and Mychal Threets —and the destination was everything I'd hoped it would be! Even got a chance to meet the chonkers (aka sea lions literally weighing a ton!) in SF.

From day 1, a teacher has been by my side-starting with my dad. (Always teaching:)) So today I want to thank him and every dedicated, safe-space-creating educator here —welcoming our curiosity, nurturing our talent and intellect, encouraging academic risks, and building global citizens. And to my teachers this year: Thanks for truly being among the best to do it & making time with you unforgettable!
