Just had a talk with a future student about calling 911 when being attacked. The big part of that discussion that I stated was that the police are minutes away when seconds count. And people should have a plan to protect themselves and their families at home and while traveling. Any thoughts?

We take you back in time long before Europeans ever set foot on Mississippi Valley soil, American Indians flourished along the mighty Mississippi River’s shores. The C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa invites families, students, tourists, and history buffs to celebrate and discover the vibrant, sophisticated culture of these ancient people.

This hidden treasure operated by the University of Memphis offers a whole new world of learning: explore a prehistoric mound complex, walk a certified arboretum and nature trail, see artifacts up close in a hands on archaeology lab, and learn how plants were used for food, medicine, dyes, and more.

Chucalissa’s story is rooted in a remarkable rediscovery. Workers preparing for the Jim Crow-era Shelby County Negro Park (now T.O. Fuller State Park) uncovered this Mississippian (1000–1500 CE) mound complex in the 1930s. Today, those earthen mounds still stand, reminding us that Memphis’ Native history runs deep long before the city we know today.

Plan a visit and step into the world of the Mississippian people. Honor the cultures who shaped this land and see how their stories continue to teach us through archaeology, stewardship, and respect for the past.

💧 And while you’re exploring Memphis’ layers of history, don’t forget your Memphys Water Royal by Nature, Sacred by Source. @memphyswater
