As you all know I am passionate about serving my community. Part of serving our community is understanding the disparities that exist within it and working towards a solution.

March of Dimes recognizes the challenges of preventable maternal health issues, preterm birth and closing the equality gap that exist in healthcare.

I ask that you stand with me and my sisters to make waves. I ask that you donate what you have whether that be time, money or simply resharing this post.

In the sixth grade my teacher told us “Either you are apart of the problem or the solution”. So let’s rise to the occasion and be champions of change.

The inaugural “Friday Night Social” was a great success this past Friday. Several Sorors came together to unwind from the long week with some great food and games. Special thanks to .lakeland for allowing us to gather in their space. We definitely plan to come back soon.

SN: If you live in the Lakeland area and haven’t been go check them out. The staff is amazing! Not to mention the spinach dip, wings, and loaded fries are everything you didn’t know you needed!!!

August 2017: I started a journey to become a nurse. Moved home and started over for a life long dream.

April 2022: Got denied graduation due to one point on an exit exam.

August 2022: Walked across the stage for my BSN. Delayed not denied because he has the final say so in everything!

July 2023: After many trials and tribulations I have finally reached the other side.

Don’t give up on your dreams. Know that your timing is not his timing and it will be alright. My challenges don’t define me… my perseverance does. I told my dear friend who was not able to finish nursing school that this degree and license was ours not just mine. Tavenia may not be earthside any more but heaven needs nurses too! I’ve lost so many things and people over the last six years. Even almost lost my mind but God!!!

When life gives you lemons …..

Make a margarita or something like that, lol.

I joke a lot about how new grad life is for the birds. However, in reality it’s all I’ve ever wanted. Sometimes I feel like I’m not being the best nurse. Then my patients or another external source motivates me. When I get overwhelmed with the never ending circle of task, I am reminded that anything can be accomplished one step at a time.

So the next time life tries to sour your spirit with its acid… add some flavor to sweeten the pot!

Last week I got the pleasure of accompanying my little cousin to Harris-Stowe State University I’m St. Louis, MO. As someone who did not get the HBCU experience this was a great opportunity for me see the culture first hand. ⁣

This was my first trip to St. Louis and definitely not my last. Beautiful city, great food and plenty of laughs. ⁣

It is important to get tested if you might have the flu. Because the various strains that occur this year effect how they make nexts years flu vaxx. ⁣

I decided to do it on birth control methods that I have personally used. Contraceptive are pretty cut and dry. Many side effects are not listed. ⁣

Every single body is different and every birth control is not made equally! Listen to your body and make the choice that is right for you!!⁣

For instance, depo helped me lose 20 pounds. Skyla migrated to where it wasn’t suppose to be. NUVARING was uncomfortable and Nexplonon has been okay. Outside of the fibroids. However, that’s my experience and I choose to keep it until my three years is up next August. ⁣
