This week’s goal is to focus on mastering meter while editing Book 2! Since I’m using rhyme, my editor has suggested some meter tweaks. As a first-time author, I’m learning on the fly! Anyone have meter tips?

Oh. My. Goodness. This. 🧚🏻‍♀️ ✨ 💖

✨ A group of fireflies is called a sparkle.

📜 Note: In an earlier carousel post on our feed, I misidentified a group of fireflies as a twinkle when they are very much a sparkle. I’m sorry. I removed the image and updated it here. This collective noun is mostly poetic and not used scientifically. Another poetic name for a group of fireflies is “glow” but they are mostly known as a swarm.—Ashley

My original story (before my many, many revisions) did not rhyme. My editor suggested playing into the rhyme I had late in the story when cutting back. So far, that’s been the best decision I’ve made! Many people comment on the rhyme!

Sleep tight tonight, and sweet dreams! If you’re having trouble sleeping, maybe our cute sandman can pay you a visit. He’s ready with his sleepy-time dust!

Part of the nighttime fairies, 🧚🏻 Voyelle looks to him along with others when trying to figure out just what her purpose is… 💤😴

When I receive reviews, I do ask questions to clarify. This is a review from Kristen, a child care provider for in-house daycare. When I heard that the kids wanted to build words and play with them after, it made me tear up. This is a VERY common response that I received from children when I read to them. I wasn’t sure if it was just me, because I am a teacher. It makes my heart so very happy!

Sharing honest feedback from parents who are reading this story to their kids. This is Jenny’s reply, she’s a homeschool mom of 3 kids, ages 12, 10, and 5.

Prepping for the release of my debut children’s book means sharing the story with parents of kids to get feedback, while I await colored illustrations. Here’s another honest reaction from a grandma!

Yes! This sums teaching up IMO.

Color design was so much fun! We worked on this about a month ago, allowing Kayla Sayers Art to begin her ‘behind the scenes’ illustrator magic! I think the adjustments we made work well. What do you think? Any suggestions?

I’m a terrible at surprises, I love to know what’s coming. Waiting for my colored illustrations to be together as a whole is the challenge of my lifetime. However, I was gifted a progress image, just for me. So, I thought, hmmm maybe I’ll provide you with a glimpse of a glimpse…here’s a 40:60 progress shot. 🤪😂 I’m excited and looking forward to more. In the meantime…enjoy a tiny taste of progress btw…he’s so cute as a whole image.
