🚒❤️ Fire Safety Week at Sense of Wonder! ❤️🚒

Ms. Machia’s preschool classroom is going full force into Fire Safety Week, and we’re excited to bring learning to life through real-world experiences!

Today, the Osage Township Volunteer Fire Department of McCune visited our preschoolers and toddlers for a firsthand look at fire safety! Our little visual and hands-on learners had the opportunity to see, explore, ask questions, and better understand what it means to be prepared and safe.

We are especially thankful for Ms. Kalei, who is not only a valued part of our Sense of Wonder family but also generously volunteers her time serving our local fire department. What a wonderful example of community, service, and caring for others!

It takes a village to raise the next generation. When our local businesses, volunteers, educators, and families come together, we build more than a community — we build a foundation of knowledge, safety, and opportunity for the children who will shape our future.

🎃 Hands-On October Learning! 👻

Sensory bins and interactive fine motor games are such a staple in our classroom! Here’s a peek at what our toddlers have been working on:

🔍 Halloween Rice Sensory Bin: Scoop, search, and sort! Toddlers dig through the rice to find foam bats, pumpkins, and cats, matching them into coordinating colored bowls. This builds tactile awareness, focus, and early math concepts like sorting and categorization!

🕷️ Spider Pom-Pom Drop: Using precision and control, toddlers match and push fluffy yellow and orange pom-poms into the color-coded spots on our friendly spider box. It’s a fun, engaging way to strengthen pincer grasp and fine motor coordination!

✨ Meet the Teacher Spotlight ✨

From hands-on play to watching those exciting "aha!" moments happen in real time, Ms. Makenzie brings so much intentional care to our center! Having her on our team is such a gift, and we wanted to highlight the passion she has for our early learners:

"I’m an early childhood assistant teacher with approximately three years of experience working in childcare. I have a strong interest in early childhood development and especially enjoy working with children between 6 months and 2 years old, a stage filled with rapid growth, learning, and discovery.

One of my favorite parts of working with young children is watching them build new skills, gain confidence, and apply what they have learned through everyday experiences. I find it especially rewarding to see those moments when something “clicks,” whether a child is learning a new word, mastering a new movement, or becoming more independent.

I enjoy creating opportunities for children to learn through play, creativity, exploration, and hands-on experiences. I value getting to know each child as an individual and believe that every child develops in their own unique way.

Being able to support children during such an important stage of their growth is one of the things I find most meaningful about working in early childhood education."

🍁 Welcome to October at Sense of Wonder! 🎃

October has officially arrived, bringing cooler morning breezes, colorful leaves, and endless opportunities for rich autumn learning!

Our kiddos are diving hands-first into the season with sensory exploration—from crunching leaves and exploring pumpkin textures to practicing fine motor skills with fall-themed art activities. We love watching their curiosity bloom as the seasons change!

📚 SPECIAL EVENT: AUTHOR VISIT!
We are so excited to welcome author Jana Yankoviz Dalrymple to Sense of Wonder on Thursday, October 22nd! She will be visiting our center for a special story time to read her newest book to our children

👻 Mark Your Calendars: Halloween Spirit Week! (Oct 26–30)
We’re wrapping up the month with a full week of cozy, creative dress-up days and a special Friday classroom celebration! Check out the flyer image attached to this post for our daily dress-up schedule so you can plan outfit ideas ahead of time.

*Friday Costume Note*: Wear regular clothes to school and send costumes in a labeled bag for changing later! Please no masks, full-face paint, or play weapons.

✨Meet the Teacher Spotlight✨
If you’ve walked down our halls, chances are you’ve seen Ms. Crystal’s big smile in action! Her love for early learning shines through in everything she does, and we are so grateful to have her on our team:

"I’m Miss Crystal, and I absolutely love watching little ones grow, explore, and discover something new every day! I’ve been working in early childhood education for a little over two years, and there’s nothing more rewarding than getting to witness their first smiles, new skills, growing personalities, and all those little “aha!” moments.

Outside of the classroom, I’m a proud mom of two with another little one on the way! When I’m not chasing toddlers or caring for my tiny learners, you can usually find me spending time with family, curled up with a good book, or spending time in my yard.

I feel so lucky to have a job where I get to love, nurture, and learn alongside little ones every day!"
