🌸 A Flower Shop Created by Kids 🌸
Today the school-age kids turned their classroom into a pretend flower shop, and it all started with a simple idea from the teachers: What if we made flowers for a flower shop? From there, the children took the idea and ran with it—transforming the space into their very own store.
They began by creating tissue paper flowers, then quickly started thinking about what a real shop would need. The kids worked together to write rules for the store, decide who would take on different roles, and organize how customers would place orders. Some children became delivery drivers handling the orders, others were customers, and one took on a special role as a botanist, learning and using new vocabulary related to plants and flowers.
As the shop opened, the children began practicing money skills, setting prices, paying for bouquets, and making change. Along the way they had to negotiate roles, solve problems together, and communicate clearly to keep their shop running.
Moments like this are a great reminder that while teachers may introduce an idea or spark the beginning of play, we can’t always predict where the learning will go—and that’s the best part. By giving the children the space to take ownership of the play, they naturally explored vocabulary, math, collaboration, and creativity in ways that were meaningful to them.
What started as making flowers blossomed into a full flower shop experience. 🌸
