Baby Blues or Something More?

Here is a flash back to my postpartum period, you might see a smile but momma was struggling.

🌸 LET'S TALK ABOUT THE BABY BLUES

Feeling emotional after birth can happen, but how do you know when it's time to reach out for help?

The “baby blues” can include mood changes, crying, worry, and feeling overwhelmed.

But symptoms that are intense, persistent, interfere with daily life, or include thoughts of hurting yourself or your baby need professional attention. Postpartum depression and anxiety are common and treatable.

💬 Which would you want more education about?
❤️ Baby blues
💜 Postpartum depression
💙 Postpartum anxiety
💚 Postpartum rage/irritability
💛 Intrusive thoughts
🩷 ALL OF IT!

Comment your answer.
And remember: asking for help doesn't make you a bad parent. It means you're taking care of yourself, too.

💜The Unspoken Crisis: Intimate Partner Violence & Postpartum Mortality 💜

Beyond mental health, there is another tragic reality surrounding maternal mortality: homicide rooted in domestic violence.

Higher Than Obstetric Causes: Research shows that pregnant and postpartum women in the U.S. face a higher risk of dying from homicide than from the three most common obstetric causes of maternal death combined (hypertension, hemorrhage, or sepsis).

Intimate Partner Connection: Approximately 50% of maternal homicides involve intimate partner violence (IPV). Furthermore, women experiencing IPV during pregnancy are 3 times more likely to experience escalating severity of physical abuse postpartum.

Time Frames: Danger levels peak during pregnancy and remain elevated for up to 1 full year (365 days) after giving birth. Late postpartum homicides (42 days to 1 year after birth) make up a significant portion of preventable maternal deaths.

Primary Cause of Death: Fi****ms are used in nearly 70% to 78% of IPV-related maternal homicides.
