Hey gang, I just realized that my website is down due to an administration issue with Hover.com, the domain name service company. No website means no email to or from [email protected] or [email protected]. This issue apparently started about a week ago. I wondered why I wasn't getting any emails. :)

Until I get this straightened out, please text me at 615-415-5681 if your instruments need some lovin'. Please dont leave me a long drawn out voice mail about "inclination" problems or trouble with your "trust" rod. 😉
Thanks!

Hey, all you pickers, pluckers and song writin' truckers! String Swing is having a pretty good BOGO and Buy2Get2 sale on guitar hangers and stands right now. Plus, if you buy a 5 or 10 guitar rack, you'll get a 3 or 5 guitar rack for free!

Hey y'all. The shop will be closed today. The think tank that is the Wilson County Highway Department decided to close Woodlawn Dr. all day. My neighborhood has one way in and one way out. Some homes on Woodlawn Dr. and all homes on Wilson Dr., Tates Pass and Georgian Way will be inaccessible all day. No mail, no UPS or FedEx and no ambulance, police or fire department access either. Wow.
I was expecting some parts for customer's guitars today, but that's a non-issue now because those customers can't get to my shop to pick up their guitars anyway.

If you have an instrument in the shop now that needed parts, expect a 24-48 hour delay on getting it back.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I'm stealing some time today to work on one of my own guitars, which I rarely do.
This is a 12-fret acoustic that I built from scratch at Luthier School 16 years ago. It's all handmade except for the tuners, pickguard, bridge pins and strap buttons.
It's got a Sitka spruce top, Michigan sugar maple back and sides, 5-piece Honduran mahogany and hard rock maple neck with ebony fretboard and headstock overlay.
When new, it was almost white in appearance, but the nitro cellulose lacquer has aged over time into this nice vintage amber color.
This guitar sounds great, but I rarely play it. I'm hoping after a proper setup, I'll put it back into rotation as I play for my biggest fans, my dogs. 😉

This gorgeous and no longer made, all carbon fiber, Rainsong Jumbo, is in for a spa day. Purists are quick to dismiss CF guitars and their eschewing of traditional tone woods and construction techniques, but his thing has a huge commanding tone and plays like a dream.
Rainsong closed their doors in November of 2023 after 30 years in business. They're getting harder and harder to find. Their 12-string is definitely on my bucket list! Santa, are you listening? 😀

Felicia Johnson, aka The Guitar Ambo, is sick. Keep her in your prayers. She's only 19 with 121,000 miles. Too young to die for a Yota. 🤞🤞

I just finished up a surprisingly challenging refret on this vintage, roadworn (actually roadworn by a hard working professional on the road, not reliqued) Guild Acoustic.
The challenge came from an excess amount of CA glue( super glue) used by the previous refretter. Using CA, as well as other glues is a common, modern day practice in refretting. This guitar had so much CA in each slot that removing every fret was a separate, extra time consuming chore. The application of heat from a soldering iron usually does the trick, but not in this case. I had to use the old Dan Erlewine trick of placing a few drops of water beside each fret and letting the soldering iron convert it into steam that wicks up under each fret. Works like a charm everytime! As usual, I got so hyper focused on the repair that I neglected to take any "before" pics. Trust me, it was mess, but part and parcel of the craft of lutherie.
It turned out great and will be ready to go home tomorrow!

I'm crazy busy in the shop right now. Thank you Nashville and surrounding areas, I got you!

If you need your guitar setup, modded or repaired and can't make it out to my shop, you have plenty of options in this area. Dave Johnson at Scale Model Guitars and Jack Brunson at Jack's Guitarcheology have carefully curated a list of vetted guitar techs and luthiers who know their stuff. AND, they're all insured for loss and damage while your instruments are in their care. Not all shops in our area are insured. Those shops aren't on this list.
