I'm working on a pretty rare bird right now. Its so rare, I can't find out the model name or number. The headstock shape is not the typical shape for this brand. This vintage National acoustic came in with some problems. It needs a refret. The current frets were so worn down that they were a real challenge to pull. The fretboard extension had become unglued and jacked up the action past the 12th fret. The bridge had been taken off at some point and then reglued very poorly. So poorly that someone, somewhere added screws to hold it down. Over time the top developed a belly with a little ripple in it. This old gal will be here for a while.

I was wondering why Alex Lifeson wasn't playing one of his signature Gibson Axcess Les Pauls, or a PRS or his relatively new Godin Lerxst guitar at the Juno Awards this past Sunday night. When I saw the gorgeous instrument he played, it caught my eye and got me sleuthing.
That guitar is the 1959 Gibson Les Paul affectionately refered to as "Greeny". It was originally owned by Peter Green who used it with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers and with Fleetwood Mac. Green sold it to Gary Moore in the 70's who played it for years as a solo artist and with Thin Lizzy. The guitar was purchased by Kirk Hammet of Metallica in 2014 for a million dollars. Kirk loaned the guitar to Alex for that appearance. How cool is that?
