Struggling readers avoid reading and fall farther behind, while good readers read more and get even better. The reading gap expands. Help vulnerable children close the gap. Learn more about volunteering with us at our website or click the link in the comments.

Maxine began with a heart for students struggling to read and a love for her community. Upstate South Carolina had plenty of children who needed skilled reading tutoring, but most of them didn't have access to expensive schooling or tutoring services. Her search for a solution led her to North Carolina's Augustine Literacy Project, and in 2006, she traveled to Raleigh for training and returned to start our local chapter -- Augustine Literacy Project of the Upstate. Thankful that 20 years later ALP Upstate is still serving under-resourced Upstate families, Maxine encourages, "Keep up the good work!"

We’re still excited from last week’s Greenville Women Giving annual meeting and grant awards presentation! What an inspiring evening celebrating 20 years of impact and partnership. Thank you to everyone who voted for us to support literacy in the Upstate. Interested in making a difference? We have volunteer tutor training opportunities this summer. Join us and change a life through literacy this fall!

We are grateful to Greenville Women Giving for a generous grant that helps us provide free, one on one literacy tutoring for K–3 students who are struggling to read. Together, we are giving more children the chance to read with confidence. Read more about the grant at the link in the comments.

King and Ms. Sue have been working hard this spring and it shows. Today King received an Amira All Stars Award for most growth on his reading benchmark at East North Street Academy, and his Augustine tutor Sue was right there cheering him on. We are so proud of this dynamic duo and grateful for our partnership with GCSD that helps students like King build strong reading skills.

40% of children will successfully learn to read no matter how they’re taught, but 60% of children will struggle and need more deliberate instruction. Help close the reading gap for vulnerable students by becoming an ALP Tutor. Learn more about volunteering with us at our website or click the link in our bio.

We are so grateful for this partnership with Mosaic Greenville. Seeing the impact our tutors make in the lives of students each week reminds us why this work matters. When volunteers commit two hours a week to a child, something powerful happens. Kids gain literacy skills, confidence grows, and they start to believe in themselves as readers.
Thank you to every tutor who showed up faithfully this school year at Mosaic and all our partner sites. You are changing lives, one student at a time.
If you are looking for a way to make a real difference in Greenville, we would love to have you join us as a tutor. The need is great, and the impact is real.
